Article overhaul

[edit]

Just to give a bit of contest to the recent overhaul I'm in the process of doing – I always thought local footy league articles on WP were pretty ordinary. Lots of text and tables without much meat on the bones. Most of them just have full ladders and results for the last 10 years, which is not really what an article should contain – go to AustralianFootball.com if you want that sort of stuff.

I've taken the general table structure of clubs from the Australian Football League article and brought it over here. It still provides the basic info but makes things a lot cleaner

@Storm machine, nice work with adding some A Grade netball stuff – it deserves just as much airtime now that the league is a football/netball league. I just made some changes to your columns so that none of the team rows were expanded to 2 or 3 lines high, it starts to look weirrd then. Gibbsyspin 03:34, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers - agree that the netballers needs similar prominence. Very happy to see your work on standardising the country football articles. My concern was that the ladder data etc would be lost, but pleased to see that AusFootball is maintaining them. With the reserves premiers now gone though, I do wonder if it was worth maintaining in some form. Storm machine (talk) 12:57, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, yeah AF is great in that regard. I do plan to bring back the reserves and under 18s premiers in a 'Minor grades' table soon. Will probably just be that though, a list of winners – I don't think scores and runners-up pass notability for the lower grades, plus it would make the article quite cumbersome, especially if/when including B/C/D/E grade of netball too.
AFL Barwon maintain a decent enough history section which I think was initially compiled in around 2008; the more recent years especially in regards to leading goalkickers are actually inaccurate (a number of the totals include finals goals which shouldn't be done) so I actually sourced from their annual reports which are correct.
