Notes Query

@Johannes Schade: I've not seen Notes used to this level of detail before - doesn't make it wrong, but if they're important enough to stick in the notes, they should be in the article.

Also, its an online Encyclopaedia - we shouldn't be putting stuff in unless it adds value, because the longer it is, the less likely anyone will read it. That's simply to provide context for why I'm a big advocate of simplicity :) Robinvp11 (talk) 12:32, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

English disbanded

@Robinvp11:. User Robinvp11 recently added more valuable and interesting detail to the beginning of the Aftermath section. One finds there among others: "the English units, which were disbanded". User Robinvp11's contribution is supported by a sound citation (Lynn, p. 132) that supports most other aspects but not the "disbanding" of the "English units". It is known that the young John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough was there and also Sir George Hamilton, Comte Hamilton, both probably with their respective English or Irish regiments in French service. At least Hamilton still fought with his regiment (the "régiment d'Hamilton") in other battles afterwards and his regiment does not seem to have disappeared after Entzheim. Of course, it could have been disbanded and recreated. Where did this information come from? With many thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 20:11, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Parliament refused to allow further recruiting for these regiments, while service in them was unpopular, so they couldn't replace their losses.

Since regiments were named after their Colonel, the fact you can still identify 'Hamiltons' doesn't mean its the same unit. Robinvp11 (talk) 12:11, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
