New Banzai! article
[edit]You noticed I was starting on the Banzai! list did you? We have a lot of work to do, so I started with the list. Do you have any ideas? : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:47, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- First, please stop adding the one-shots. Even for a defunct magazine, they are not notable. They weren't removed from SJ just because of size, but because they aren't a notable thing to note, and best summarized in the feature list as has been done with the others. :) Beyond that, what's your source for the list of series, since its longer than ANNs? In doing web searches to look for info, I'm getting a little concerned that Banzai may not be notable enough to support a standalone article after all, but will keep it going for awhile yet. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:59, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- I got the source of the series from the German article, a link is by the toolbox. Also, I won't keep adding the one-shots, i just needed a reason for the deletion. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 20:25, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Which German article? The site that was in the infobox doesn't work anymore? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 21:59, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- By the toolbox, the one on the left. Here's the link: http://de.wiki.x.io/wiki/Banzai_%28Manga-Magazin%29 , it was in the foreign languages. Also where did you get the names of the original German-language manga creators from? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 22:26, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- I found them on a German store site adverting an issue of the magazine :D -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seems that store is the only source we can rely on....when I look up stuff for sources, it comes up with a copied version of Ataru's old section for Banzai!. StrangerAtaru really needs to keep in mind that the article he created is a really, really, important one. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:46, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Banzai! image
[edit]I found a good image for Banzai!. It's at amazon, so I don't know if we can use it or not. But it's a good cover, it has almost all the series on it. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 18:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Can you give me the link to the original product page? I'll need it for doing a FUR for it. :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problemo! Here's the link: http://www.amazon.de/Banzai/dp/3551757372/ref=sr_1_27?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215546677&sr=8-27 – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:53, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, added. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 20:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Perfect! – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 21:31, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, the link manga-influenced comics redirects to the OEL page. I don't know what we should do since they really aren't Amerimanga, they're German. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I know. Unfortunately, they made that naming choice awhile back and don't seemed inclined to change it even though it is inaccurate :( -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's very....annoying... I'm going to start a talk about that. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- There's an active discussion going on there about renaming it and what the category should/shouldn't include. We've been waiting for people to jump in. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 01:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Good to hear. OEL just isn't accurate anymore :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Tell me about it, but the alternatives all have their faults, too. *beats head on desk* --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 01:47, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed...though I'm glad, at least, that Wikipedia isn't pulling a TP and just calling it all "manga" :-P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 02:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Like what Tokyopop does, that freakin' drives me crazy! – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 02:06, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, that's the eternal difficulty. There has to be a division or the category would be out of control, so I fully support separating Japanese comics off, but "manga" is what a huge chunk people, including a lot of otaku, call "that kind" of stuff, regardless of national origin. The word has multiple, ever-changing meanings in English, and isn't used consistently in any one way by a huge majority of people. After all, in Japan it just means "comics" and includes stuff from any country. Using it as a categorization tool simultaneously while using it varying ways in colloquial speech makes for some tough patches. I used to sell a&m for a living and would get annoyed by Tokyopop and when (99% of) customers called non-Japanese stuff "manga"...then I realized that most people just don't give a crap, and they're referring to a type of product they enjoy, not to a national identity. It's nice to know where things come from and have that as a background as you're reading, but in the end they're all comics. :) (Hope you don't take offense -- none is intended!) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 02:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Sourcing n' stuff
[edit]Sourcing will be a sinch with the Wayback machine! Now I can find all the old pages, instantly. I was just trying to use the archive template...but it keeps screwing up.... – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 22:14, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- To source with the wayback machine, its the same as {{cite web}}, except url should have the original URL, while the wayback machine link goes in the parameter "archiveurl" and the date of the archive (listed on wayback) goes under archivedate. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 22:25, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
