What's the meaning of Ashanti? Tomeasy T C 22:03, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The reverted version was plagiarised in large parts from http://www.modernghana.com/GhanaHome/regions/ashanti.asp.

With one difference: the word "Ghana" is consequently replaced with the word "Akanland", claiming "Akanland" some sort of subnational entity or nation which not is. Apparently this is an edit pattern of the user who added the copyright violation. Also on other pages he replaces the word "Ghana" with "Akanland" and the word "Ghanaian" with "Akan", see for example many international sports people [1]. Thats POV pushing and manipulative original research, please watch out for such edits. The edits are often covered behind meaningless edit summaries such as "pre fix"--Martin H. The large parts of information that were copied from http://www.modernghana.com/GhanaHome/regions/ashanti.asp. have been massively reduced and removed in the history and economy section of the article. The sentence such as (The Akan-subgroup Asante (Ashantis) constitute the largest of the various subgroups of the Akans, who trace their origins partly to Bono-Manso and Techiman, in present-day Brong Ahafo) originally derives from the Ghana government site http://www.ghana.gov.gh/index.php/about-ghana/regions/brong-ahafo and not modernghana.com. Please if you don't have vast knowledge about the said topic, I suggest you do research, because there are different ethnic groups of the ten regions of Ghana that forms Ghana. "Ghanaian" is not a ethnicity it is the name for Ghanaian passport holders, and there is no language such as a Ghanaian language or Ghanaian culture. The culture of Ghana is made up of the different ethnic groups in it, the Akan being the native and largest ethnic group in the South of what is Ghana, Abron tribe (Brong) and Ahafo people (Ahafo) (Brong-Ahafo Region), Akyem people of Eastern Region, Fante people of Central Region, and such as the Berber people of North Africa. "Akanland" is a cultural region and language area of the Akan peoples such as that of Igboland of the Igbo peoples and Yorubaland of the Yoruba peoples. So please try and know what you are talking about before underlying historical and major ethnic groups over a lack of knowledge about the said topic. Map

[edit]

@Zebtonq: the map previously posted was out of date (from the 1930s, and borders have changed since then), as well as of poor quality (cut off in parts and on a white background). The page would benefit from a detailed map of the region that was both up-to-date, of suitable quality, and in the public domain. But in the absence of one, I think it makes sense to just use the locator map. --Varavour (talk) 21:44, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Monarchy?

[edit]

The article describes an absolute monarchy with districts each run by paramount chiefs. I would suggest that this is entirely false. The constitution of Ghana makes no reference to an Ashanti monarchy or districts being run by chiefs. It provides for elected governments. Can someone with direct knowledge of Ghana's governance please correct the article.Royalcourtier (talk) 06:39, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Region

[edit]

Ashanti is simply a region of Ghana, not a "a city-state autonomous region".Royalcourtier (talk) 07:11, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
