Notability
[edit]It would be easier to accept the notability of the subject if:
- there were evidence of his reception on a national basis, including a photograph of him in print media of the time
- his name appeared on the list of people from Virginia
- there were references to the Ostrander family name in histories of the region

- Resolved here. Article doesn't need to go to the Requests for Comment list.

Context
[edit]A comparison to other figures in American Medical History/Virginian History (it need only be brief, and would be used to complete the introduction) is still needed. Doesn't affect anything now that the article has been properly sourced, but, then again, the Citing Wikipedia guidelines exist for a reason. Low-importance biographical articles are discarded all too easily these days. Ottre (talk) 20:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Quality Standards
[edit]The Biography section is disjointed for an encyclopedia article. The following things need to be ammended:
- The lives of the subject's grandfather and wife are not dated
- There is no evidence of the subject leaving the schooling system, nor of his academic performance
- The name of the company the subject worked for is not mentioned
- The name of the Methodist Church the subject joined is not mentioned
- The official name of the Masonic Lodge the subject was a member of is not mentioned
- How being a member of the Masonic Lodge affected the subject's faith is not mentioned
- Vagueness, considering how extensive and diversified the vocations are today:
Arthur was raised to be a farmer, like his father before him. He attended public schools along with his siblings, excelling in the technological fields of study,[vague] and labored on the farm during term breaks.[citation needed]
From an early age, he exhibited an interest in science and an aptitude for mechanics.[vague]
- Exceptionally poor choice of wording:
He [...] divid[ed] his leisure time amongst fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
