Translation of the name

[edit]

Shaman is an expression of status, or of job. Arbuja has a somewhat different meaning; it's agent noun from the verb of arbuma, which in turn refers to a few specific forms of magic. Furthermore, the term was archaic already a century ago. Perhaps, sorcerer would be a better translation? It has a few other connotations that are missing from the original, but at least it carries the nuance of describing a person by actions rather than by status. Indeed you are correct, as Saagpakk's Estonian-English dictionary confirms. Martintg (talk) 02:44, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One possibly valid translation for arbujad would be witchers (cf. witching hour etc.). Just sayin'. --Ehitaja (talk) 15:39, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
