I have a book which distinguishes between "winter annuals" and "summer annuals". I think that winter annuals establish a vegetative system and overwinter, then flower the next spring; and that summer annuals sprout, flower and die within the same spring/summer/fall. But I'm not positive - I'm doing more research but I'd love it if someone who knows could elucidate on this page! Desultor 13:58, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

While "winter annuals" is a subcategory of annuals, I think it warrants its separate page. True, there is not a great deal of information contained on the page, yet, but my purpose in creating it was in the hope that it could be expanded in the future. The scientific literature often references "winter annuals" as a category, especially with respect to agricultural control. Another intention is that we could link to a "winter annual" page from other wikipedia pages--whereas it would not be particularly informative to link to an "annuals" page, which would probably contain mostly information about cultivated flowers. If anything, I think it would be helpful to have the page separate, and include a list of some typical winter annuals. Cazort 15:26, 18 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Why are the winter crops missing here? Also carrots can be sown in autumn (not to early). Hairy vetch too, scarlet clover, ... the complete list should do an expert. Wolfgang Kaul (talk) 13:23, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How do annuals die?

many cannabis books (not known for their accuracy) claim that cannabis/hemp is the only annual that has two distinct diomorphic sexes. Is there any truth to this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.207.129.95 (talk) 12:42, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, this is not true. Some spurges come to mind -- e.g. Mercurialis_annua. Ethan Bass (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 15:49, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
