[edit]

I removed it because of WP:EL it says there should not be links to myspace un less it is in reguard to the site its self. ie linking to someones myspace page should be avoided. I also removed it because MySpace can be extreamly harmful to computers (the recent computer virus and other things ) and it is un encyclopedic. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 11:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It says they generally should not be linked to. You put in your edit summary that you were removing it as it was "unverifiable;" I disputed that, as it is listed on his official website. I would definitely delete it if it were a fan-made MySpace, which I believe is largely the reason for the rule of thumb regarding them, but it is not. -Shannernanner 12:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
may I also point out that if a user wants they can go to the offical page and get to it. Another key issue with MySpace is that the whole system has security issues and can harm users. Just recently the site made United States news headlines for the fact that they were infected with a virus and the site has been known to have other issues. Im not anti-MySpace but the link doesnt need to be there i can see more harm than good coming from it. Also the term generaly was refering to most group pages as "unless mandated by the article itself" per Wikipedia:External links policy and the link is not mandated. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 15:21, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the phrase is "should generally not be linked to unless mandated by the article itself," which means that in general it is fine to link them if "mandated by the article itself," but generally should not be otherwise (meaning that there are exceptions), as I said. I'm not really sure what the fact that the site has had viruses before has to do with anything, unless you wish to recommend to Wikipedia that they delete every MySpace link for risk of infecting users' computers, as many articles use MySpace links legitimately. I'm not deadset against removing the link, but so far I have not seen any reason to do so. -Shannernanner 07:04, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Amos Lee album.jpg

[edit]

Image:Amos Lee album.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 17:26, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Supply and Demand.jpg

[edit]

Image:Supply and Demand.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Semi-protected

[edit]

I have temporarily semi-protected this article due to contentious editing that has run afoul of our biographies of living people policy.  Skomorokh, barbarian  23:31, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why was the edit reversed? Lee himself admitted to his birth name in this article:

The edit was reversed because the content added was controversial and not supported by adequately reliable sources, which the above links by and large are not. Wikipedia has a presumption in favour of privacy for living subjects, which editors are asked to respect. Sincerely,  Skomorokh, barbarian  23:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Photo

[edit]

I have removed the photo below as it does not clearly ID the subject and adds not value to the article. If the info in the caption is sourced it can be added to the article as text.

I completely agree with your other changes to the article (chrono order, remove choppy sectioning based on albums) but disagree with this removal of the image. The picture shows a video screen clearly identifying the subject as "Amos Lee, Singer Songwriter" and you can recognize him as well. The image is illustrative to the article since it shows his political sympathies and shows him performing before what it probably his largest audience ever. It also shows a Philadelphia landmark behind him, which illustrates the association with his hometown. It's great that the article also has a close-up image for the infobox, but this is a complementary image that adds value to the article. I've added a cite that he was there at the event. I'm really not sure what your objection is based around here. The usual problem with Wikipedia articles is that there are no images freely available at all! Wasted Time R (talk) 14:01, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WT, thanks for your comment and feedback. My objection is that the subject of the article is Amos Lee, not the crowd/city and this is a picture of the heads of a crowd and buildings with a screen image in the far background that is unidentifiable. Someone has said its Amos Lee but the background image is so small that we cannot recognize the person. Do think there is any truth to what I am saying?--KeithbobTalk 19:24, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The subject of the article is the career of Amos Lee, and this photo of this performance illustrates part of that career. Are you seriously concerned that this is a case of misidentification? Look at these Google Images of Lee ... the hair is the same, the facial hair is the same, he wears those kind of glasses sometimes, he uses the same black acoustic guitar sometimes ... it's clearly the same guy, and the graphic on the video screen confirms that. It's common to include "setting" photos as well us close-up photos in articles like this. Look at U2, for instance, which is a Featured Article. Several images show the group up close, but several others show the group at a far distance as part of illustrating their stage productions or special appearances. Hi WT, you are a good editor and I respect your position even though I disagree. At this time I think it would be best to get some outside input from uninvolved editors at the BLP noticeboard and see if they have some insights that might help to resolve this for us. Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 19:39, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since there was no support at BLPN to keep the photo I think there a clear consensus to remove it and so I have taken it down. We can look for some better pictures to add at a later time. Thank you for participating in the discussion and hope we can work together to improve the article further. All the best, --KeithbobTalk 22:15, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Will review it in the next days

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
I understand this article is fairly short, but at least try to add more to the lead, for example that he released four albums in the following years, that his music was included in soundtracks or performed in shows, that he played for Obama voter registration rally... a little bit more information would be nice.
The career section could be improved. Currently it reads like a timeline or in note form.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Ref 29 needs to be fixed
Ref 16 should be build (accessdate, url, etc)
    No all-capitals writing per WP:ALLCAPS
Non-english sources should be noted (with language= parameter)
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
  • Dabsolver check: fixed two dabs
  • Checklinks check: two dead links
  • Reflinks check: filled some refs
  • Fixed dashes
  • On hold until you fix those
  • Nice, but try to replace IMDB references, because it is user-submitted and has low editorial oversight
  • Ok, I see you italicize the newspapers, but you should not italicize after work=, because it changes back to normal font
  • Ref 34 and ref 38 should be changed to German (Austrian is not a language but a language variety anyway)
  • Now you added a few references; tv.com and locatetv.com should be removed as they are unreliable.
  • Pass very nice job!
