This person appears not notable per WP:BLP1E. Toddst1 (talk) 13:44, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to be an exempt - per BLP1E, this event is "significant and the individual's role within it is substantial and well-documented". Elmahdy's action reverberated internationally; also domestically it became a major incident because in Egypt a majority of women are still veiled so far. Well she was relatively unknown until a few days ago, but now her story and possible ramifications are reported by major news outlets worldwide, so imho she can be considered notable now.--Kmhkmh (talk) 20:31, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How is being nude woman in a photo significant? The example in BLP1E is the first-person shooter of a US president. This is a woman who "publicly challenged Egypt’s existing social conventions". BFD. Next year, notbody will care. To be clear, "reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event, and if that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual, we should generally avoid having an article on them." That is the case here. Toddst1 (talk) 21:59, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
BLP1E also says "In such cases, it is usually better to merge the information and redirect the person's name to the event article." If this article is deleted, then apparently there would be no coverage of the event on Wikipedia. Is that OK with everyone? 76.68.38.12 (talk) 15:05, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It would seem to belong here. Toddst1 (talk) 23:18, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Being nude in a photo is significant in the context of Egypt. In the US this would be no talk, but in the context of egyptian conservative society it is an important topic, especially as she has created an own hashtag, had over 4 million blog views in just more than one week, has created and gotten worldwide coverage plus the attacks on her safety, that have been important. Sitting in the better seats of a bus is also not a wikipedia page worth it, but in the context of the US racist segregation it IS important. Rosa Parks has an own page, so should have Aliaa Magda Elmahdy.--Mardas90 (talk) 23:06, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aliaa Magda Elmahdy != Rosa Parks. Let's see, which one has a museum, libraries, streets, a foundation and numerous schools named after her? Toddst1 (talk) 23:11, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think the recent AFD put this issue to rest for now. We'll see in the long term. Toddst1 (talk)

Rumours of death

[edit]

Given all the rumors about her death, wouldn't it be appropriate to add a quick word in the lead and/or a section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.191.227.50 (talk) 20:20, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added. Brandmeister t 23:39, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Amer?

[edit]

The article refers to Amer a few times, but doesn't say who or what this is!203.184.41.226 (talk) 06:38, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. The earlier version included Kareem Amer, but then he disappeared for a while. Brandmeistertalk 10:00, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not always an internet activist, maybe?

[edit]

There's a lot of photos taken by some media press of her protesting shirtless, and naked, in the streets. so I guess she's not always an Internet activist. Mhatopzz (talk) 17:36, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
