"refugee from the Armenian genocide"?

[edit]

"Manoogian was 19 when he immigrated to the United States. He was a refugee from the Armenian genocide..." is highly dubious because his hometown İzmir was under Greek occupation at that time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.174.157.194 (talk) 08:01, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Greeks were in temporary (1919-1922) control of Smyrna during their war with Turkey. If Manoogian was in Smyrna, it is reasonable to think that he might have used the break from Turkish control of the region to escape from the genocide that Turkey was perpetrating on both the Armenians and the Greeks. If Manoogian was not in Smyrna (although born there, I don't seen information regarding his specific whereabouts at the time he emigrated from the region), then no particular imagination is needed to understand why an Armenian would want to escape Turkish rule. 141.211.103.135 (talk) 17:06, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the section entirely. Come back with some citations and not baseless conjecture. 2607:FEA8:A4C0:AE4:912D:1D89:79C0:FF10 (talk) 14:07, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
