knighthood

[edit]

I would just like to make the point about Albert Henry's Knighthood. In it's current state the article claims that he was knighted by the Queen in 1974 "For his achievements". This is technically correct however I would like to add to this discussion some extra information that puts this into context. In 1974 the Cook Islands was officially visited by its head of state, Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. While visiting, she presided over the opening of Rarotonga International Airport. This is mentioned in the article but the article fails to mention is that the airport had been completed 18 months previously. In these 18 months the opening was postponed until the Queens visit by Albert Henry because (as Henry knew) royal protocol dictated that should the Queen open the airport The serving premier would receive a Knighthood. Although I cannot state it as fact it is my personal belief that the deciding factor in Henry receiving a Knighthood was not his actions as Premier but simply a dated royal protocol that he knowingly took advantage of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.72.178.90 (talk) 12:48, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

corrections

[edit]

Henry's middle name was Royle, not Royale; I've fixed it. I've also added that he founded the CIP, and the dates of his term as Prime Minister. I've added three Cook Islands-related categories; there weren't any, and Henry was a major figure in Cook Islands politics. Also, there was an Australian biography stub, which I've removed (he wasn't Australian), and replaced (for now) with a "basic" stub. Feel free to put in something more specific.
This article in the French Wikipedia has some useful information. I may translate it if I get round to it (being French myself). My other sources are books, Akono'anga Maori: Cook Islands Culture (Crocombe, M., ed; ISBN 982-02-0348-1) and Nation and Destination: Creating Cook Islands Identity (Sissons, J; ISBN 982-02-0142-X). Tracked down the geocities link referred to in this thread from Howard Henry, see:
The "Jeffrey Strickland Family" (archive.org)
He is the grandson of Albert Henry, as confirmed via CI government spokesperson earlier today.
I've direct linked sources to FPCA case, sorry don't have time to add citations Jasonbrown1965 (talk) 04:43, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

not sure how to tag this correctly but it seems to me that this page is one-sided.

The "brief account" of Albert Henry's conviction seems to be neither brief nor NPOV. I've flagged it, hopefully someone with more time and resources can track down the details.

I'm not sure there are many published ressources on Albert Henry's Conviction. The main one is probably his grand son book (see [1]). I wonder if user Puaikura is not himself Henry's grand son ???? Nevers.

Neutrality?

[edit]

This has to be the least neutral thing that I have EVER seen. Albert Henry may well have written the article itself. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Versalius (talkcontribs) 19:08, 5 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

As I see it...the purpose of this article about the Criminal Convictions of Albert Henry, is to present the "facts" and the "truth". That is all. To be "neutral", a writer has to write "honestly" and present all the "facts" in a "truthful" mannner. So, is this article is an "honest" account of what happened to Albert Henry who died in 1981? I think it is. So if it is an "honest" account, then I think it is a "neutral" account. In some cases : "Fact is far more intriguing...than what fiction could ever be." And this is one of those cases. Puaikura

I find this article honest and interesting. Nevertheless would'nt it be better to create a dstinct article on the "fly-in voters scandal" and consequences and improve this one concerning the life of Albert Henry, his background, political career...Nevers
How could Albert Henry have written this article when he died over 20 years ago? 125.236.174.162 11:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fly-in voters Scandal

[edit]
I've just read your message. Thanks for the explanation. That's much more clear for me now. It would be a great idea if you could write a good article on Albert Henry. It seems that you know the subject very well. After all, with his autobiography, the life of Tom Davis is quite well known. The one of Albert Henry, much less (I mean outside Cook Islands). It would be my pleasure to translate it in the french wikipedia. Kia manuia Nevers
