Intro sentence
[edit]I can't follow the intro sentence. It says "Affine shape adaptation is a methodology for iteratively adapting the shape of the smoothing kernels in an affine group of smoothing kernels to the local image structure in neighbourhood region of a specific image point." I'm OK up to "an affine group of smoothing kernels". What does that mean? And what would it mean to adapt it to the local image structure? 155.212.242.34 (talk) 21:52, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
The term "affine group of smoothing kernels" means a family of smoothing kernels that are related by affine transformations in such a way that they form a group and are thus well-behaved under compositions of several affine deformations. A good choice in many situations is the group of affine Gaussian kernels, but one could also consider other choices.
The term "adapt to the local image structure" means that the smoothing kernels are somehow adapted to be as similar as possible to the way the image looks in a local neighbourhood of an image point. In this specific application, similarity is measured by second-moment matrices, but one could possibly also consider other choices. Tpl (talk) 09:25, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
