Relation to Rostopchin

[edit]

In his obituary in The Nation, [https://books.google.com/books?id=Ax04AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA545&dq=Rostopchin+%22de+Mun%22&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj38N2xgNGKAxV9D1kFHbhiIvgQ6AF6BAgEEAI#v=onepage&q=Rostopchin%20%22de%20Mun%22&f=false] it appears to claim that de Mun was a related to Fyodor Rostopchin saying:

"His grandfather was the Marquis de Mun who was Napoleon's chamberlain but so representative of a class that the Restored Bourbons made him a peer of France And his father by marrying a daughter of the Count de la Ferronaye who was so long French Ambassador at St Petersburg made him a descendant of the Rostopchin who withstood Napoleon at Moscow."

I can't tell if this was meant as exaggeration or the truth, since I have not found anything indicating a familial connection between Ferronaye and Rostopchin. Wanted to know if anyone has found additional information or what they think is the answer? 3Kingdoms (talk) 03:00, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
