Removal of collabarations

I would like to add an extra sentence after it says, "Young has often referred to himself as being deeply shy and socially introverted." I would like to add, "But he does not let this hold him back when it comes to putting on concerts and worldwide tours for his albums." I think just leaving it saying he is shy and very introverted makes him sound like a hermit or someone who is afraid of everything, and that's not how this person is at all. Even though it is true he's shy and introverted, I think the following sentence I'm requesting would be appreciated. Anyone agree?

Same thing happened to his admission that he had assburgers. He even spelled it out a*s*s*b*u*r*g*e*r*s. Instead, Wiki lies and claims he made a much more mainstream and less insane claim that he as Asperger's. Why lie to protect him?

Asperger's

It's way too late for me to be actually finding good sources and adding it, but Adam mentioned in an interview that he has Asperger Syndrome. I heard this somewhere a while back, and just saw that it wasn't here, and a quick search turned up that interview. I don't know if this source in itself is good enough (I'll be honest, it looked like a legit news article, but the URL has the word "blog", and that's as far as I got with it). We should at least use this as a starting point to verify this with better or more sources, and I'm posting this either as a reminder to myself to look into it, and to nudge other editors to do the same. Thanks to Invisiboy42293 for beating me to adding it. I checked around, and can't find any other RS that confirm this, though it seems that he often/sometimes talks about it in interviews or on stage, so we at least have a sniff test confirmation of this (and, completely subjectively, it makes sense -- I suspected it long before I heard it directly, and a lot of his music talks about it, albeit indirectly). Massive amount of Side Projects

Adam Young has had over 30 side projects to date (the earliest being around 2002-2003)

Around 2007, he "canned" most of them and focused mainly on Owl City and Port Blue.

If possible, would a section with just a list of them all be desired? (no description, since about 50% of them are simply garage band trash not really worth talking about in detail XD)

I recently acquired them all through an amazing turn of events (no joke). So I have years, albums, etc.

Edit: I will also note that most of them have still have intact PureVolume/MySpace accounts, if citations are the only worry.

Ok. Finished! The section has been set-up! All projects have at least one reference, save "Casey's Pizza." I own the one track from that project....so I know it existed and what year it was. Unfortunately, the MySpace account was deleted awhile back. :(

Most of the references are primary sources and don't seem to indicate that Young was involved. For instance, the PureVolume material's only clue that Young may have been involved is "Owatonna, MN".

Well then, we should probably deleted it then. Because besides those accounts and the "common knowledge" factor of hardcore Hootowls, there is nothing else.

I must note, Adam has said time and time again that Owatonna is a small town. The chances of all these projects sprouting up from others is iffy and more unbelievable. Another thing is the fact that most the projects (especially the PureVolume ones) have the running theme of "lunacy" and "pointless zany/comedic" (all the PureVolume descriptions of the bands make NO sense. One even says "Andy was not found on this server Andy was not found on this server, about 7-10 times) So the assumption is relatively "assumable" (not totally provable, of course).

I will also note that most of the MySpace accounts are tied together in the sense that on their "friend list" they have the other projects. (aka. The Perfect Theory is friends with Windsor Airlift is friends with Seagull Orchestra, etc)

Sorry, but I have removed the section, since none of the citations reference that it was Adam Young who created the projects. Yes, Owatonna is a small town and the chance that they are all made by different people is slim, but Wikipedia must not contain original research, so we cannot synthesize these sources to hypothesize that Young was their creator. You canned all of them instantly without realizing there are a decent few where Adam directly sings in them, which verifies involvement. Plus, as I said above. The MySpace ones are mostly connected (Keehar, Insect Airport, etc). "Sailboats" off An Airplane Carried Me to Bed is originally from the side project "Seagull Orchestra." Chester McWiggins and the Kowboy Kidz has a pic of Adam and his friends for their official band art. The Grizzly is obviously Adam for the same reason. The Perfect Theory has Adam as lead singer in one of the songs. Windsor Airlift (and Glacier Island) don't even need to be proved. Isle had valid sources.

So, some (if not 50%) of the projects have verification. Thank You.

Thanks for the note. I would feel better if we described Young's involvement in those "decent few" in prose in the "Early career" section, rather than just listing them. We can and should talk about the most important ones that are directly verified through reliable sources, but I don't think there is a necessity to list every single one. Let me push this a step further. XD Though total proof of most of the PureVolume accounts can't be totally proved.......95% of them have a running theme of absurd humor/meaningless descriptions that indicate they are from the same person(s). One even says "Andy was not found on this sever" seven to ten times (Andy Johnson being current lead of Windsor Airlift). It is almost IMPOSSIBLE that these are not from the same group of people, aka Adam and friends. Plus, they have a running theme in the sound department as well. I'm a hootowl nut, I've done my research (I also own all the projects). Though 100 percent certainty can never really take place (unless Adam rambled all 33 off in an interview), fans trust he did them. The evidence doesn't really point anywhere else.

Obviously this isn't a super evidence backed argument. It runs on common sense, mixed with a listening ear.

I'm passionate about this because I want fans to have access to everything "Adam Young" they can. I'd like the infamous 33 projects to be common knowledge amoung fans. If that isn't possible, I have to be happy with owning them myself and just live with that. XD

OK, let's do this baby steps. I still don't think we should be posting a list of all Young's minor projects; especially when they are so insignificant that we have to rely solely on common sense speculation and primary sources to tell that he created the projects. What I do think we should do is mention that he had several minor projects prior to Owl City. Windsor Airlift is clearly the most noteworthy out of all of them. As a start, I've restructured the "Early career" section to surround it. Feel free to expand upon it. I don't think the "Basketball" one is Adam Young. The Facebook post appears to refer to [1], not the MySpace account. I agree with all you've said, save the suggested merger. Windsor Airlift has enough material to stay as it is, in my opinion. Plus, he isn't very involved in it as of 2009-ish. To merge it would imply it's predominately "his thing".

It's a shame most of the PureVolume accounts are broken and don't play the tracks anymore. They worked as of early-2012 when I found them. I came back to them a month or so back and they didn't work. Was really glad when I found that torrent download that contained them all.

Whoops! Didn't look into that reference enough I guess. However, the picture on Basketball's MySpace page is clearly Adam Young, Andy Johnson, and Anthony Johnson. Plus, the account is tied to the other projects as further proof.

I feel having Carly Rae Jepsen that high on the list (or even at all) is uncalled for. She collaborated with him once, that's all.

Adam Young and instruments

I know for a fact he can play drums and guitar.

Is there a reason these were not included in his instruments section?

The documentation states "Instruments listed in the infobox should be limited to only those that the artist is primarily known for using. The instruments infobox parameter is not intended as a WP:COATRACK for every instrument the subject has ever used." He's known as a vocalist and keyboard player. That's why those are listed. I'm not sure that programming is an instrument, but it makes sense to leave it in. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:14, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

He plays with a guitar in his concerts a decent deal of the time. See the film documentary about Owl City, Live From Los Angeles: here. Here are some instagram pics: here, here, here, and here. Plus, Sky Sailing is primarily acoustic guitar.

And though he doesn't play drums in Owl City, he played it in Windsor Airlift and a great deal of his side projects (including Port Blue). He also still plays it in his spare time. here

Drums is iffy based on the parameters you've set.....but guitar is a no-brainer. He uses it quite frequently.

Hello everyone, clearly there are some users on this article who are unable to accept fact as grounds to edit. Wikipedia can't thrive as a publicly edited encyclopaedia if its editors would rather serially revert others' attempts to improve the article than simply accept that the revisions benefit the article.

Firstly, Adam Young is "known to play" guitar and drums just as much as he is "known to play" keyboards and sing. Young even released a whole album (Sky Sailing) of himself singing and playing guitar and drums. It is stated in the liner notes of all of his albums, and is clearly visible on every video of his concerts. I have linked to some examples below for everyone's benefit and will cite them as sources to change the article - how anyone can object to this change when there is clear evidence is unfathomable.

Secondly, the genres of most Owl City albums are incorrect. If anyone can cite the current genres on the articles I would really appreciate it, although it's easy to predict there won't be any.

I'd like to reach a consensus on these changes so we can start to edit appropriately without throwing around pointless warnings on talk pages and asserting the virtual power over others that some of us seem to think we possess.

Swimming With Dolphins

Since the destruction of the Swimming With Dolphins article, it has basically been back-stabbed with literally nothing on Wikipedia about it AT ALL.

I mean, I think I read the reason given for it's closure (besides its notability) was that "Adam Young's page had adequate description of it". I literally see nothing except 2-3 mentions of the name. Nothing about Austin Tofte, nothing about the releases it has put out, where it currently is, etc. Nothing.

Even a sentence or two would be better than what it has right now.

I suggest we consider giving Swimming With Dolphins its own article once again. Take an artist like Sunsun, she has an article it it is much more minor than a SWD article would be.

Plus, Adam Young hasn't been a part of SWD since 2008, in the whole scheme of the paragraphs on SWD on the Adam Young page, he is only important in about a fourth of it. SWD has its own life, and it needs a small article (like Windsor Airlift).

I feel like that overdramatizes the article, and we shouldn't be doing that unless we have sources that also describe the events as "The Taylor Swift Incident", which I assume there are none. Becoming a problem...

Dear everyone,

I'm starting this section not because I want to, but because I feel I have to.

This article is becoming subject to a large amount of (questionable) reversions, mostly by Walter Görlitz (talk) - a serial edit-reverter, may I add - and therefore is turning into quite a battleground.

The first subject I'd like to raise is whether "drums" should be included as an instrument on Young's article. I would vote in the way of YES, as Young is known for playing drums on every studio album he's produced and even in a live setting (something several thousand people, including myself, would vouch for). Walter seems to think that "drums" should not be included, even though - in his own words - he says "Only those instruments that he's known for playing" should be included. I'm not talking about including "triangle" or "wood-block" here, but Young does play drums frequently.

The second is the new side project sections, recently added by my friend RhettGedies (talk), who seems to be making some great edits around here at the moment - thank you. However I do feel the article is now a little overloaded with new sections, with smaller and smaller headings that don't look anywhere close to visually appealing, so I took it upon myself to (what I thought was) clean the article up a little. This edit was quickly reverted by RhettGedies (talk), in association with Walter Görlitz (talk), with "badly formatted" as a reason, and my suspected "new-ness" to Wikipedia being questioned in the process. Questionable formatting was the whole reason I cleaned up in the first place.

I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on this, although I suspect this letter will be shot down pretty quickly.

Dear Sam,

First: I'd like to point out your "drums" argument with Walter was already taken up by me months ago (see section above). Though he may seem like a stiff stickler, he knows the guidelines better than anyone I know and has a well-deserved reputation. Though him and I butt heads occasionally on many other articles (this one included), I know that he is not creating revisions without good reason.

Second: My work on the "early career"/side-projects section is obviously pretty personal, yes (due to the fact I spent a few days worth compiling the sources and doing the writing). I felt your three-paragraph revision crammed the 30+ projects that was: 1) was italicized (but we also clarified that). 2) took years away. I was showing readers what he was doing since the start every year. 3) I didn't dedicate more than a sentence usually to each "more notable" project (notice I didn't do all thirty). But I felt a sentence or two each to the bigger minor projects summed up what they were about perfectly in a nutshell. 4) As I mentioned above, the revision seemed....crammed. It was unappealing (at least to my eye) upon readthrough and left me dissatisfied as my "OCD" took over and wanted to give it more room to breath again. XD

Anyways, totally understand the anger you could possibly be feeling. I had a hard time when I first encountered Walter (he helped delete a decently big article I had written and invested months into), however, he has become a valued friend who is good in a jam when Guidelines come into play due to his picky-ness. As far as I've seen, he has never done anything out of personal bias, merely, the guidelines say such and such, etc.

Too many small sections

Whoa! Are all these individual sections really necessary? Most of them are only a couple sentences long. If we aren't expanding them any time soon, we should consolidate them. I've gone ahead and consolidated the sections. The most glaring thing I see in the article is a lack of balance. We say a lot about Young's background, his early career, and even his personal life (which we should be cautious about because he is a living person and can be affected by anything misleading we write here). With Adam Young, the elephant in the room is obviously Owl City. But this article doesn't talk as much about Owl City than it does with his background, early career, and personal life. The fact is, more secondary sources out there discuss Adam Young in connection with Owl City. As a result, we should be reporting more things about Adam Young in connection with Owl City in this article. We need to balance our coverage of the subject. I will start work on this article soon. One of my favorite aspects of Wikipedia is its usefulness as a source for general information on a wide variety of topics. This page should not be speedily deleted because there is a lot of information related directly to Adam Young, and his other projects, located on this page. To acquire the same amount of information without this page will require searching multiple other pages (i.e. Owl City specific, Port Blue specific, Sky Sailing specific). Is it because of the Adam Young Wikipedia page that I know about his other projects, and much of the other information about him and his work. To search multiple pages causes the information to become disjointed, will inhibit the readers comprehension, and allow some information to fall through the cracks. I implore you, do not delete this page.
