Recorded at summer of 1982?
[edit]How could the album be recorded at the summer of 1982 if it's 2 first singles had been released in January and April? GODFATHER 11:29, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not sure saying it was recorded in the summer of '82 is entirely accurate, but there's a logical reason on why "See You" and the "The Meaning of Love" were released so quickly. After Vince Clarke left the band, the remaining trio would have obviously wanted to prove that they could move on successfully without him as quickly as possible, hence quickly recording the "See You" single (a song Martin had written as a teenager) and releasing it in January. Saying the entire album was recorded in the summer might be a bit too late (spring would probably be more accurate, but I've never seen anything marking it in either direction), since "Leave in Silence", the third and final single was released in August. That being said, I'm removing any mention of the time of year in the infobox, that is, until somebody can provide a citation, whether it be for "spring" or "summer". - Nevermind, the liner notes (at least on the CD version) specifically includes: "Recorded in the summer of 1982 and produced by Daniel Miller and Depeche Mode, A Broken Frame features 11 Martin Gore originals, including the hits 'The Meaning of Love' and 'Leave in Silence'." The liner notes also say the band's name means "fast fashion", which is wrong, but I think the rest should be taken as truth. John5008 | talk to me 14:41, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Album cover award?
[edit]Didn't this album cover get in Time magazine as album cover of the year when it was released? I can't recall where i heard the idea, so i'm not sure how true it is. Sunhawk 18:58, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've read something along these lines too, but it was on an Amazon review, and I can't find a proper citation (it actually states that Life magazine, in 1990, called it one of "the best photographs of all time"...that really couldn't be more vague). In addition to that, Rolling Stone magazine did a "100 Best Album Covers" in the 90's and A Broken Frame was somewhere around 75 or so (again, I'm searching for a proper citation in vain...haha) This Israeli fan site FAQ mentions both. John5008 | talk to me 19:45, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh Life, yes not Time, I knew it was one of those big name magazines heh heh. I believe I read about the Life cover from one of the unofficial biographies, which seem to be fairly accurate when they are not relaying gossip. Sunhawk 20:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- There's some information about the cover photo at http://www.depechemode.co.il/article.asp?ID=22#abf Bobbozzo (talk) 21:40, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Guitars on a DM album?
[edit]Daniel Miller mentioned in the Steve Malins biography that guitars were first used by DM on A Broken Frame. Does anybody have an idea which track or tracks it was? Sunil 131.111.36.48 15:00, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
First use of a guitar on a depeche mode song was not on "A Broken Frame"
[edit]The first actual use of 'guitars' on any depeche mode song is on "Love In Itself". I strongly doubt even samples of guitar 'noises' appear on any albums earlier than "Construction Time Again" due to the fact that the band were NOT rich by any stretch at the time and samplers in 1982 were prohibitively expensive.
