B-26 Confusion

[edit]

We have a not realiable source that says there was confusion between the two B-26s, clearly it didnt confuse the USAF as it did not have any Marauders left by 1948. So has anybody got a reliable source that explains who was confused. MilborneOne (talk) 14:48, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An editor added a reliable ref that does support the "confusion claim", but even that source, the National Museum of the United States Air Force doesn't say whom it actually confused. Since the two aircraft were not in US service at the same time under the same designation, I can only assume the confusion was to museum staff. - Ahunt (talk) 22:10, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Probably mainly kids and generalist journalists who get confused. :) But I don't doubt there is some confusion, as both are WWII era aircraft, regardless of when the designations where used. I do remember someone on Wikipedia confusing the two within the past few years, so it does happen. BilCat (talk) 02:53, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Disambiguation is already in place, so surely the paragraph in the lede should be moved to the Notes section ? PeterWD (talk) 12:18, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They would be referring to the general public (and not the kids - usually their granddads) - the Marauder was subject to considerable media attention during the war and so was very familiar to the public, the Invader not so much as the US media tended to provide a disproportionate amount of coverage of common, obsolete or failed types, while ignoring more capable aircraft the Germans and Japanese might want to actually know about. By the end of the war, there was little interest in piston powered medium bombers, and so the Invader barely got a mention, so people still get the two confused all the time, not having heard of the Invader. I haven't kept any of the books I have read that were specific to the A-26, but I recall seeing the confusion being mentioned more than once, perhaps in the more generalist sources. - NiD.29 (talk) 12:08, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
