See Also Section
[edit]What is the relationship between the topic of this page and the Korean War unit mentioned in the See Also section? Should the link to that page be removed as unrelated? TadgStirkland401 (talk) 16:39, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- It has been 5 years since my question above about Air Resupply And Communications Service, and no one has responded. Seeing no relationship on either page, I am removing it from the See Also section. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 20:28, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Lineage question
[edit]@Lineagegeek, I've seen your work on many other articles, and I have a question I'm sure you are perfect to answer. Is there any rhyme or reason behind a unit name changing from 7499th Support Group to say 7575th Operations Group? I'm sure I should already know this, and it should be a simple answer. But moving from Support to Operations alone seems like a stretch, then they also change the number? Sometimes a unit is deactivated or closed down (whichever is the proper term) for years before being re-constituted under another name... How is that by any definition LINEAGE? I'm not making light of it; I'm baffled at the moment. Thanks for your time. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 22:30, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Although the narrative is correct, the Lineage section lumped together information on the 7499th Squadron/Group, 7575th Group and even a little 7405th Squadron. The brief answer, their is no relation between the 7499th and 7575th Groups, other than their similar, if not identical, missions and the assignment of the 7405th Squadron to each of them. I think my edits to the lineage may clarify this. Lineagegeek (talk) 22:30, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Wow! I reviewed your edits! You completely rewrote huge amounts resulting in a great read. Thank you so much. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 23:06, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Lineagegeek, another question, if you don't mind; What source of information did you use? The dates for the Components section do not match from a book I have called Looking Down the Corridors by Kevin Wright and Peter Jefferies (2015). For instance, you show the 7580th assigned from July 1977 - March 1991. But the book says the 80th wasn't activated until Feb 1983 (pg 55). I'm not challenging you, I'm curious about the different in source material. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 20:52, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- It was based on the statement in the narrative that the squadrons were activated with the new group. However, the cited source (footnote 11) now leads to a blank page and it has not been archived at the Wayback Machine, so it can't be checked. The entry in Fletcher, Air Force Bases , Vol. II, Air Bases Outside the United States of America for Rhein Main AB only lists the group for 1977 units newly stationed there (no listing for either of the 7580th Squadrons, and doesn't extend to 1983), so Wright & Jeffries would certainly win in a contest with a blank page.
