The result of the move request was: moved as proposed. (closed by non-admin page mover) Mdaniels5757 (talk) 16:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment → 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment – To bring page into consistency with recent consensus on ACW unit naming conventions at Wikipedia talk: WikiProject_Military_history#Retitling_of_Civil_War_Regiments/Removal_of_Volunteer. Got error message when I tried to move it, page already exists. How to remedy? Historical Perspective 2 (talk) 15:16, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Move as agreed elsewhere. There's a recent consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Retitling of Civil War Regiments/Removal of Volunteer, a discussion to standardize ACW-related regiment article pagenames in which several editors participated, including the move requester in this process. I would think this is a relatively high-profile page compared to other ACW-era regiments, so it's not out of line to raise a discussion on talk. If there are some objectors, they might want to chime in at the link I've provided. The technical aspect of such a move in this case is to request speedy deletion as G6 (deleting to allow a page move) and notify an admin (like User:Peacemaker67) to assist. For the record, it has been a week since this discussion was called and there seems to be no objection to the move thusfar. BusterD (talk) 12:06, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you BusterD. I'm going to post on the project talk page seeking assistance as I'm not clear on the process.Historical Perspective 2 (talk) 20:23, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- I've initiated a few of these moves and worked my way through a number of them. Now I'm looking at the Illinois regiments and trying to perform the subsequent changes in a methodical way. The states with the most regiments are going to take some time. If I can be of any assistance please call on me. BusterD (talk) 20:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- Much appreciated. I posted an update on the project talk page. I've moved most Massachusetts pages without trouble but there are three or four sticky wickets due to existing destination pages. Hoping Peacemaker67 can help out but will be in touch if further problems crop up.Historical Perspective 2 (talk) 20:47, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- I can't close this, because I'm involved via the prior Milhist discussion. Rather than initiating an RM for these, just ping me on the talk page and I'll do it. Obviously I support the move. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:50, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
