Results Chatter Page

[edit]

@Donan.raven:Just wondering if you could share where you're getting the 'chatter.txt' files - right now there's usually a delay of about 12 hours between the races and the round robin table being updated, which is a bit inconvenient. ScorpiumX (talk) 04:31, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

the race data is published by ACRM here. Indeed they are not published immediately and this is an inconvenience, but I think that publishing race times is useful to make the wiki as accurate as possible, it is also useful to monitor the improvement of yacht performance over the series, even though there is still inherent inaccuracies as ACRM varies the course length between the windward gate and the leeward gate depending on weather. Tell me what you think if the round robin presentation works. signed:Donan Raven (talk, contribs) 08:13, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The presentation itself is fine, but I think the color code should represent advancement rather than place - so a team only gets the light green background once they've guaranteed a spot in the Challenger Playoffs - as of right now (before 31 May racing) ETNZ is the only team that is guaranteed such a spot, as Artemis cannot pass them in the standings. agreed, it is much cleaner that way, thanks for contributing. signed:Donan Raven (talk, contribs) 19:42, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of B in Softbank Team Japan

[edit]

Should we refer to the Japanese team as 'Softbank Team Japan' or 'SoftBank Team Japan'? Right now we're using both at various points in the article. Most places I've seen, including the team's own marketing and the AC35 website use 'SoftBank'. ScorpiumX (talk) 22:58, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Or should we just be using Team Japan, as we usually don't include sponsors in article names. Mattlore (talk) 02:05, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We actually do use sponsors both within this article and in article names, such as Oracle Team USA or Land Rover BAR. This is consistent with competitors from past America's Cups, and in my opinion doing this actually helps to convey that these are not national teams, but instead are teams with roots in corporations (such as Larry Ellison owning Oracle Team USA). ScorpiumX (talk) 16:33, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sometimes we do - but usually we don't. In the end we are guided by what is their common name, or what most independent sources refer to them as. I can find references to Team Japan [1][2] and SoftBank Team Japan [3][4], but not Softbank Team Japan. Mattlore (talk) 02:00, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
