Matching three-letter abbreviations

[edit]

I started changing the 3-letter abb. from the standings and results table so that they matched each other, but decided to leave to everyone to look at and decide. So here are those which differed and may need to be changed to match (I believe these are all of them):

  • Argentinos Juniors = ARG or ARJ
  • Atlético de Rafaela = ATR or ATH or RAF
  • Godoy Cruz = GOD or GCR
  • Nueva Chicago = NUE or NCH
  • San Lorenzo = SLO or SLA

I am fine with all of them, it just seemed like they should match each other. Equineducklings (talk) 02:07, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should follow FIFA as close as possible in this regard. I've seen FIFA refer to Boca Juniors as BOC but I also saw them designate San Lorenzo as "SLA" in the recent Club World Cup. So I would go with: Argentinos Juniors as ARG (per Boca Juniors), Atletico Rafaela as RAF (since several teams in Argentina usually omit the "Atletico" in their name such as Lanus, Independiente, River Plate, etc), Godoy Cruz as GOD (per Boca Juniors), San Lorenzo as SLA (per FIFA) and Nueva Chicago as NUE. --MicroX (talk) 08:19, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me MicroX but the abbreviations are the following:

  • Argentinos Juniors = ARG
  • Atlético de Rafaela = ATR
  • Godoy Cruz = GOD
  • Nueva Chicago = NCH
  • San Lorenzo = SLO

Several teams usually omit the "Atlético" but not is the case of Atlético de Rafaela (is placed 4 in order by that), the others are i.e. CA Lanús, CA Independiente, but this club is AMSyD Atlético de Rafaela (without that omition)...Nueva Chicago always be know as NCH (not NUE) and the same my club San Lorenzo is SLO (don't care why the FIFA use in the TV transmition SLA because is a mistake...is SLO)

Another wrong abbreviations in the article:

  • Defensa y Justicia = DEF
  • Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata = GIM
  • Newell's Old Boys = NEW
  • Rosario Central = ROS
  • San Martín de San Juan = SMJ (like San Martín de Tucumán is SMT)
  • Unión de Santa Fe = USF
