Historic Errors

[edit]

The .450 Nitro Express was introduced by John Rigby. The name is not one given to a series of 45 caliber cartridges but specific to one cartridge alone, the one introduced by John Rigby. It .450 NE was standardized across manufacturers. The .450 EXPRESS is the part which is used by a series of fairly similar cartridges which originated in the black powder era which were not standardized and there was variations between manufacturers even to the diameter of the bullet. During the BP era such variations may not have had catastrophic effects however with the introduction of higher pressure cordite these variations could cause catastrophic failures. While subject of the article the .450 NE uses the case of one of these .450 Express cartridges (specifically John Rigby's version) this should not be taken that there were several versions of the 450 NE. Several versions of the .450 Express (yes) several versions of the .450 NE (no). This article need to be corrected to reflect reality.
