Hello all. I am going to be editing this page for a class project. However, my present task is to evaluate it based on some guidelines, which I will now proceed to do. It is clear that this article is rather poor. It has a very small amount of information; what it does have in the way of information comes from a link that does not work. There is so much to be added: biographical information, Polverel's role in ending slavery in Haiti, how he came to do so, etc. All these things can be easily fixed with some labor.
There is one positive element of the article, however. Namely, it presents the bit of knowledge provided in a fair and neutral way, as per Wikipedia policies.
I look forward to working on this project.Chrisgonz321 (talk) 00:10, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
Potential Additions
[edit]I hope to add copious amounts of information to this page. The index of Jeremy Popkin's You are all freehave states that the following information is to be found inside: Polverel's attitude toward slavery, his career before going to Saint-Domingue, conflicts he had with Sonthonax, how he handled the crises of June 20th, 1793, among others. All of these are relevant and interesting tidbits to add.
Here are some of the books I plan on using: You Are All Free: The Haitian Revolution and the Abolition of Slavery by Jeremy Popkin, Confronting Black Jacobins : the U.S., the Haitian Revolution, and the origins of the Dominican Republic by Gerald Horne, The Black Jacobins; : Toussaint L'Ouverture and the San Domingo Revolution by James, CLR, Universal Emancipation: The Haitian Revolution and the Radical Enlightenment by Nick Nesbitt.
