The Pennsylvania Young Democrats (simply referred to as PAYD) is the official youth caucus of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party (PADems). The group's membership is open to any Pennsylvania Democrat under the age of 40. PAYD is nationally affiliated with the Young Democrats of America.

History

[edit]

PAYD was established as the official youth caucus of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. At their 1949 convention, then-Congressman John F. Kennedy gave remarks at their regional convention.[1]

Leadership

[edit]

The membership of the PAYD elects its officers at a bi-annual meeting, most recently held in 2023.

Its executive committee consists of a president, a vice president, secretary, treasurer, an immediate past president, a state committee representative, and two national committee representatives not of the same gender identity. The President of the Pennsylvania College Democrats and the Chair of the High School Democrats of Pennsylvania also serve as ex-officio voting members of the PAYD Executive Committee.[2]

In addition to their duties within PAYD, the President, Vice President, College Democrats President, and High School Democrats Chair also serve on the PADems Nominating Committee.
