Battle

[edit]

In the late evening at the end of January 1993. HOS and HV army entered Škabrnja.[5] Although the Croatian forces led by Marko Skejo had taken control of the town and even the dominant elevation of Ražovljeva glava as part of Operation Maslenica, they were immediately pushed back by the Serb counterattack with significant losses, in which Serbs took back Ražovljeva glava.[6]

The town was controlled by 80 HOS soldiers and an unknown number of HV soldiers for 43 days since its occupation by Croats. They were facing the Serbian army of Krajina towards the north. Later members of the HOS battalions were replaced by other HV who had more soldiers. The replacement found itself unprepared, in a very difficult position and in an almost hopeless situation. Škabrnja was re-captured by Serbian army of Krajina which was commanded by Dragan Vasiljković[7] on 22 March 1993.[8]
