Moshe Reuven Sheradsky (Hebrew: משה ראובן), known professionally as Moshe Reuven, is an American rabbi, Billboard charting artist, singer, rapper, Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneur, songwriter, writer, executive and public speaker.

Sheradsky first received recognition in music when his debut single went viral on several social media and streaming platforms.[1] Following the release of his debut, "You Are Not Alone", he signed to Create Music Group. The single managed to reach charts in five different countries, including becoming a Billboard certified single in the US.

Sheradsky is a Hasidic Jew and is one of four Orthodox Jews in history to have signed to a leading international music label.[2][3][4][5]

Early life

[edit]

Sheradsky was born and raised in Hollywood, Florida.[6] At a young age he was mainly known amongst family and friends for his abilities in basketball[7][8] and math.[9][10] Sheradsky wrote his first song at the age of 8 as a form of self-expression.[11][12] In high school, he began making music with his friends and recorded his first songs with Mr. Cheeks’s former producer, Hayden.[13] It was during his later years in high school and the beginning of college, at The University of Central Florida, that Sheradsky began to seek a more spiritual path,[14][15] delving more deeply into Orthodox Judaism.[16][17][5][18][19][20][21] Throughout his late teens and college years, Sheradsky began devoting time daily to prayer and Torah study.[8][22] He received mentorship from various rabbis. Eventually, Sheradsky received his rabbinic ordination at the Rabbinical College of America in 2021, after spending multiple years studying in various yeshivas in America and Israel.[11][23][24][25]

Career

[edit]

Writing and business

[edit]

Sheradsky's first writings were published in The Huffington Post in 2017 and he made his first contribution to Forbes in 2018.[26][27] In 2018 he joined the Forbes Technology Council[28] and Young Entrepreneurs Council, invite-only councils for founders and executives in companies worth $1M or more.[27][29] Sheradsky was primarily invited due to having been at the head of multiple technology startups,[30][31] including his own, Wedu,[32] that had reached $1M+ in revenue or capital raise,[33] as either a chief executive officer[34] or CMO.[35] He's been a founding member of three startups that have reached the $1M+ range for either metrics.[36] From 2020 to 2021, he contributed as a writer for Entrepreneur (magazine).[37][38]

In 2018, inspired by the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Sheradsky began writing on topics of chassidus[39] for Thrive Global and Live Kabbalah,[40][41] as well on social media.[citation needed] He was appointed to this position after the founder of Live Kabbalah read his writings in Huffington Post.[42][41] He amassed a following, primarily on Instagram,[43] sharing from Chassidus and regular day-to-day life via quotes and music.[44][45][46][18]

Music career

[edit]

In 2020, Sheradsky[47] released his debut single, "You Are Not Alone".[48] The song was aimed at helping those dealing with issues during the COVID-19 pandemic.[49][50] The song had a local and international impact,[51][52] with signs being placed alongside roads as a reminder to drivers, stating "You Are Not Alone". Over a year after its release, the song became a Billboard-certified single as part of a compilation that reached No. 22 on the Billboard charts for digital album sales.[53][54]

The success of "You Are Not Alone" caught the attention of a record executive at Create Music Group.[22][55] He was then connected with their team's A&R reps, who concluded that they should sign him. Upon signing his first record deal, Sheradsky became the fourth Orthodox Jew to sign to a top record label, alongside Matisyahu, Alex Clare, and Shulem Lemmer.[3][21][56]

In 2022, Sheradsky released the song "Say"[57] with Julian Marley.[58][59] Rolling Stone included Sheradsky in their Global Artist Spotlight, highlighting the song.[60] Throughout the latter half of 2022, Sheradsky performed shows with as many as 3,000 and 5,000 people attending,[4] as well as giving private performances throughout the United States. Sheradsky and Marley performed together[61][62][63] in Florida for the first time in mid-December.[64] In the same year, Sheradsky was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.[65] In August, Rolling Stone included Moshe in their Global Artists Spotlight List for 2022. In 2023, he additionally became a member of the Recording Academy.[66] During Chanukah of 2023,[67] he headlined The Largest Menorah Lighting Concert, in Brooklyn, New York.[68]

In 2024, Sheradsky started off the year with the release of the song 'Red and Yellow'. With this song, he would find his first entry on the Spotify Editorial Playlist, 'Fresh Finds', a Spotify Editorial playlist dedicated to showcasing the best songs from new artists. Additionally on February 21 the song reached #89 on the Spotify Charts for the Top Songs in Israel.[69][70] In February, Moshe Reuven gained viral attention on social media due to his unique participation at the Grammy Awards.[71] As the only Orthodox Jewish artist invited, his debut on the red carpet captured significant attention, amassing over a million views. He was notably dressed in a 'Never Again Means Now' shirt, a symbolically chosen Yellow Flower styled by Kobi Halperin, and a traditional Hasidic garment known as a 'kapota'. This was viewed as an act of solidarity with Israel and a stance against antisemitism during music's most highlighted award ceremony.[72][73][74][75]

On March 9, 2024 Moshe reached the top 50 charts on Spotify for Israel at #19.[76]

On March 22, 2024, Moshe topped the Israel Spotify Charts at #1.[77][78][79][80][81]

Billboard magazine featured Moshe Reuven on its July/August dual cover for their GRAMMY First Look Edition.

Moshe Reuven released two mixtape mini albums on August 30th 2024, "The Poetry Tapes" and "The Reggae Tapes featuring Julian Marley". In the first week, hit single from The Poetry Tapes, 'Vehi', climbed the Spotify charts in Israel placing as high as 18th for Top Songs in Israel.
