Larne House Short Term Holding Facility
Larne House is a United Kingdom Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), where individuals are held while awaiting decisions on their asylum claim or considered for deportation from the UK for various reasons.
Description
[edit]It is located on Perimeter Road South of Gatwick Airport in Gatwick, West Sussex, England.[1] Larne House is managed by security firm Capita on behalf of Border Force.[2] When Larne House was established in 2011, it was the UK's first purpose-built detention centre in Northern Ireland.[3]
There are bed spaces for 19 people.[4] The centre was originally managed by Reliance Secure Task Management.[5] The centre has a lounge area, a dining room, a smoking area, a shop, 24-hour healthcare services, laundry services and a multi-faith prayer room.[4] When it originally opened it was planned to hold 21 people, and Amnesty publicly called for an independent system for monitoring the centre.[6]
