David Sotomayor, known by his stage name Jade (born November 18th, 1984),[1] is an American drag queen and television personality, best known for competing on the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Career

[edit]

When Sotomayor first started drag, she originally went by Jennifer, after a friend gave her that name due to her love for Jennifer Lopez. Sotomayor thought it was common, so she went by Jay. A host mispronounced it as Jade, and she liked it. She decided to keep her last name when making her facebook.[1]

In 2009, Sotomayor was on the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race. She was eliminated 4th. Her and fellow contestant Tammie Brown would sneak out of the hotel room from time to time.[1]

In 2020, She appeared in an episode of Empire and a year later, became a nurse during the Covid-19 Pandemic.[2]

Personal Life

[edit]

Sotomayor's cousin, Eddie Sotomayor Jr, was killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.[3] He was one of Jade's first and biggest supporters throughout her whole career. Eddie was 34 years old.[4]
