Jack Velling is an American football tight end for the Michigan State Spartans. He previously played for the Oregon State Beavers.
Early life
[edit]Velling grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended Seattle Prep School. As a senior, he brought in 57 catches for 838 yards and four touchdowns.[1] Velling committed to play college football at Oregon State over other schools such as Arizona, Fresno State, Michigan, Minnesota, and Utah.[2][3]
College career

[edit]Velling made his collegiate debut in week three against Montana State, where he caught one pass for seven yards.[4] In their week seven game against Washington State, he hauled in four receptions for 63 yards.[5] In week eight, Velling hauled in a touchdown as he had one reception that he took 60 yards for his first career touchdown against Colorado.[6][7] In a week 11 matchup against California, Velling recorded two receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown, as he helped the Beavers win 38–10.[8][9] Just a week later in week 12, Velling had the best performance of his career, where he caught three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, as he helped Oregon State take down Arizona State 31–7.[10][11] In Oregon State's bowl game, Velling made two receptions for 21 yards, but Oregon State would beat Florida 30–3.[12] Velling finished the year with 16 receptions for 281 yards and three touchdowns.[13][14] For Velling's performance on the year he was named a Freshman All-American honorable mention.[15] Velling is in line to be the Beavers starting tight end in 2023.[16]
On December 6, 2023, Velling announced that he would be entering the transfer portal.[17]
