main.css 403 forbidden error
[edit]When I click on any of the links to http://en.wiki.x.io/style/monobook/main.css , I get a 403 forbidden error:
Forbidden You don't have permission to access /style/monobook/main.css on this server. Am I doing something wrong, or can I really not see the main.css file? Rchard2scout (talk) 15:56, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- The link is out of date. I will remove it for now in the interests of simplicity. Superm401 - Talk 03:18, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
The default skin
[edit]The default skin is not monobook any more, but this article has not been updated. --Albuseer (talk) 08:52, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed in Special:Diff/377287963 and later updated in Special:Diff/1183256642. —andrybak (talk) 15:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Link error
[edit]The disclaimer at the top of the Talk page has a link with improper syntax.
- "The former page's talk page can be accessed at [[Talk:Help:User style]]."

It would help to say where special: mypage/common.css is located
[edit]I found this article pretty useless because it doesn't say where Special:MyPage/common.css is located. I deduce that this is installation-specific, but without any hints of where to look for it or whether it even exists or has to be created, the usefulness of this article to novice users like me is limited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editeur24 (talk • contribs) 15:34, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Editeur24: Did you follow the link? Here it is again: Special:MyPage/common.css. Click it, and see where you end up. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:17, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! It takes me to: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Editeur24/common.css But is creating a new page via that location going to change the HTML styles on my MediaWiki site on http://rasmusen.org? Maybe it is; it just seems incredible to me; does my site on rasmusen.org even knows my editeur24 identity? And is that page going to be non-editable by other people? Maybe it all does work that way, but more explanation would be comforting before I started trying to set that up, since it does seem amazing. editeur24 (talk) 21:41, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is a help page at Wikipedia, meaning it's only relevant if you are tyring to change the styles you see on Wikipedia itself (or, with appropriate modifications, on some other MediaWiki-based wiki). The site you linked to doesn't even seem to be a wiki, much less one based on the MediaWiki software. Perhaps you want to look at our article for Cascading Style Sheets in general, or W3.org's help pages for learning CSS? - dcljr (talk) 22:12, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I've figured it out now. editeur24 (talk) 03:37, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Should we remove mention of depreciated themes
[edit]Cologne Blue and Modern skins are depreciated as of 2021 and no longer selectable through the user preferences menu. Given this, I removed them from the 'General' section of this help page. User:Redrose64 reverted this removal. Advanced users have a workaround, at least for now, allowing these themes to be used, but this help page should be streamlined for users new to styling and covering depreciated skins/features is unnecessary clutter.Dialectric (talk) 02:31, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- What is an "advanced" user? All logged-in users may utilise the techniques described at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#The end of the Modern Skin. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 12:49, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- I've struck the word advanced as it is a distraction from the focus of my comment. The point is that we should not devote space to depreciated skins/features, particularly ones that only had a few dozen active users. If you continue to disagree, I can open a WP:RFC to resolve this.Dialectric (talk) 18:15, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- I believe we should continue to have space dedicated to these "deprecated" skins until they are completely unavailable for everyone including unavailable through the Technics listen in Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#The end of the Modern Skin. New users may be interested to try out the skins. 😎😎PaulGamerBoy360😎😎 (talk) 04:17, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @PaulGamerBoy360: Please note, the term is "deprecated", not "depreciated". --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:48, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- whoops sory about the typo 😎😎PaulGamerBoy360😎😎 (talk) 22:26, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
