Fang Hongwei (Chinese: 方红卫; born June 1966) is a Chinese executive and politician, currently serving as party secretary of Xi'an, in office since November 2021.
He was a delegate to the 13th National People's Congress. He is an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Fang was born in Fuping County, Shaanxi, in June 1966, the year the Cultural Revolution broke out.[2] Fang is family name, and "Hongwei" (红卫) meaning the Red Guards. In 1984, he enrolled at Tsinghua University, where he majored in automobiles.[2] He joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1987 during his junior year.[2]
Career
[edit]After University in 1989, he joined the Shaanxi Automobile Manufacturing Plant (later was reshuffled as the Shaanxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (陕西汽车集团有限责任公司)).[2] There, he was in turn an intern, the chief of the Experimental Technology Department of the Automotive Research Institute, a factory deputy director and general manager of the Sales Company, the executive deputy director, the general manager, and finally the chairman and party secretary.[2] He also served as chairman and party secretary of the head office Shaanxi Automobile Group (陕西汽车控股集团有限公司) between October 2012 and April 2015.[2]
Fang He got involved in politics in April 2015, when he was appointed vice mayor of Baoji and was admitted to member of the CCP Baoji Municipal Committee, the prefecture-level city's top authority.[2] He was assigned to the similar position in Weinan in July 2016.[2] In January 2017, he became mayor and deputy party secretary of Hanzhong, rising to party secretary in July 2020.[2] In May 2021 he became secretary-general of the CCP Shaanxi Provincial Committee and was admitted to member of the CCP Shaanxi Provincial Committee, the province's top authority.[3] In November 2021, he was chosen as party secretary of the capital city Xi'an.[4]
