Eli San Fernando (born Elijah Rumbaoa San Fernando; August 13, 1996) is a Filipino labor leader and politician who is currently serving as the first nominee of Kamanggagawa Party List. He previously served as the secretary general of Alternatiba Party-list from 2022 to 2024.
Early life and education
[edit]San Fernando was born on August 13, 1996, in Quezon City, Philippines. He studied Bachelor of Science in Economics at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Santa Mesa, Manila, graduating in 2018.
Early career
[edit]Eye Bank Foundation
[edit]San Fernando began his professional career at the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines Inc., where he held multiple positions. He served as Community Relations Officer and Section Head of the Community Relations Department, where he was responsible for managing community liaison, public relations, and external communications. In this role, he reported directly to the company's chief executive officer (CEO).
He later served as a Consultant for the same organization, where he spearheaded the development and implementation of their social media strategy. His responsibilities included content creation and managing various online media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and the Eye Bank website. He also handled public relations activities as coordinated by the Eye Bank's President/CEO.
Political career

[edit]San Fernando became involved in student politics during his university years, serving as a board member of the Student Council of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines from 2017 to 2018.
In 2018, he became the founding Chairperson of PUP SPEAK (Students' Party for Equality and Advancement of Knowledge), a student political party at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Party-list involvement
[edit]San Fernando served as the secretary general of the Alternatiba party list from 2022 to 2024. During his tenure, in 2023, the party filed a graft case against an executive of the Department of Agriculture (Philippines) regarding sugar import practices.[1]
In 2024, San Fernando became the first nominee of the Kamanggagawa Party-list.[2] As part of his campaign, San Fernando posted a large billboard of himself on Thursday, September 26, which some users claimed was spotted along the C5-Buting Flyover area. The billboard earned 2,500 likes, reactions, and over 200 comments. Additionally, a separate campaign billboard featuring him on the C5 Flyover gained viral attention.[3]
Legal matters
[edit]In 2024, San Fernando faced libel charges filed by the Manila City Health Office in response to a video he posted online.[4]
Personal life
[edit]San Fernando currently resides in Mayamot, Antipolo City. He works as a union organizer and labor leader.
