Comment: Might be WP:TOOSOON for a game with no fixed release date and minimal sourcing to date other than routine announcement coverage. If IGN is circulating the trailer there might be some signs it could get some good coverage closer to or upon release. Otherwise it's not quite there for notability. Zeverland is an upcoming multiplayer survival game developed and published by independent game studio Quantum Quirks.
The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that has become overrun by zombie-like creatures due to a meteorological phenomenon known as "red rain". Players must survive by scavenging resources, crafting weapons, modifying vehicles, and working together with other players. Players who become infected with the zombie virus may choose to continue playing as a zombie, unlocking a parallel gameplay system.[1][2].
The game is slated to be released in 2025[3].
Plot
[edit]Zeverland takes place in a world that has been overrun with zombie-like creatures. Prior to the start of the game, a meteor predicted to collide with earth inexplicably disintegrates in the atmosphere. While the world celebrates the averted disaster, however, red-colored rain begins to fall across the earth, releasing a virus into the air that infects and mutates nearly every living thing it comes into contact with. The player takes the role of one of the only humans who has thus far remained asymptomatic[4].
Gameplay
[edit]Zeverland combines elements of a survival and simulation game. Players must fight, explore, scavenge, build, hunt, and craft in order to survive both zombie attacks and environmental threats. The game features multiple classes for players to choose from and specialized skills to unlock, encouraging them to form teams with other players to supplement skills they are not proficient in.
The game features a crafting system that allows players to combine everyday objects into unorthodox tools and weapons. In addition, the game features an extensive vehicle modification system, allowing players to change the appearance of vehicles and add various weapons, defenses, and modules[5]. Players who are infected with the zombie virus may choose to continue playing as a zombie. Playing as a zombie grants the player access to unique, upgradeable powers, including the ability to control other zombies.
The game takes place on an open-world map, spanning a total area of about 600 square kilometers. The map is divided into multiple biomes and settlements, with different areas having differing levels of infection. Players may choose their starting location on the map, affecting their starting equipment and initial survival strategy[6]. Gameplay is divided into 30-day "phases", with each phase having its own weather and unique challenges.
As a multiplayer game, players must also contend and work with other survivors. The game includes a variety of cooperative tasks that can affect the state of the game world if completed, such as building a landmark, developing a vaccine, or setting off a nuclear device[7]
Development
[edit]Zeverland was announced by Quantum Quirks on November 24, 2024, accompanied by a 6-minute teaser trailer. The game is expected to be released on Steam for Microsoft Windows some time in 2025.
