Babu Gheena Rai ji gave approval for the marriage of Babu Kalicharan Rai ji. Babu Visheshwar Rai ji got married to the daughter of Kalicharan Rai ji.

Freedom Struggle

[edit]

Babu Visheshwar Rai started participating in all the programs of independence. Babu Akshayvat Rai[1] made Babu Visheshwar Rai a member of the Congress Socialist Party in 1935, and Visheshwar Rai also worked day and night to strengthen the organization. Meanwhile, on August 9, 1942, Gandhiji gave the slogan British leave India. On August 9, 1942, Babu Visheshwar Rai, along with his comrades, damaged the Jandaha Post Office.

For the independence of the country, Jai Prakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia formed a fighting organization named Azad Dasta Fauj.[2] The underground organization Azad Dasta Fauj[2] operated at many places in the district. In one of them, in Bechiraki village of Bakhri Barai of present-day Rajapakar, the great warrior of freedom struggled Azad Dasta Fauj[2] camps ran under the leadership of Bachchan Sharma. Babu Visheshwar Rai also used to take training at the same camp.

On March 22, 1944, Azad Dasta comrades were caught by the villagers in Madhopur village of the present Sitamarhi district. These four companions—Amir Singh, Sitaram Singh, Shyamanandan Singh, and Narayan—were caught and beaten. The villagers stabbed Sitaram Singh in the chest and handed him over to the administration. The administration locked them in Muzaffarpur jail, from where they were all transferred to Buxar jail.

To avenge the misbehavior of the villagers towards these four comrades, 19 Azad Dasta fighters from Hajipur, under the leadership of Bachchan Sharma and Visheshwar Rai, divided into two parts and headed towards Madhopur villages in present-day Sitamarhi.

The revolutionary comrades of Azad Dasta first decided to reach the place of their well-wisher, Kuldeep Babu, a resident of Pandhpakar. Whenever any revolutionary friend of Muzaffarpur district implemented any plan in Sitamarhi district, Kuldeep Babu's house in Panthapakar used to be his refuge. Madhopur resident Chandrakant Jha Ji knew the names of the people who had arrested the agitator. Bachchan Sharma ji called Chandrakant Jha ji in Panthpakkar Chaur, they crossed the Lakhandei River, and marched to Madhopur. By the time they reached Madhopur village, it was 11 o'clock at night. Then it started raining from the joints. First of all, Chandrakant Jha ji took all of them to the dafadar there. Dafadar was caught by the revolutionaries. Sharma Ji and Visheshwar Rai Ji first cut off Dafadar's nose and ears. Despite this terror, a crowd of villagers gathered even in the heavy rain. Seeing the crowd, Sharma Ji opened fire in the air. The crowd calmed down due to aerial firing. While explaining to the villagers in a loud voice, Sharma ji said that we are not thieves and robbers, but fighters of Azad Dasta. They have come to punish those who misbehaved with Azad Dasta comrades and handed them over to the police. Eleven men are guilty in this case. All eleven people were punished one by one by cutting off their nose and ears. Later in carrying out this incident Visheshwar Rai Ji showed his bravery step by step.

Arrest of Babu Visheshwar Rai

[edit]

By 1944 , all the organizations of Azad Dasta started becoming weak, but the Khayri organization of Bakhri Barai village of Rajapakar block under Vaishali district was active. The camp (base) of all the fighters of Azad Dasta was in Bakhri Kharauri. The troubles of Azad Dasta's comrades started increasing when the British lured some people of Bakhri Barai village to their side by falsely luring them.

Four revolutionary fighters of Azad Dasta were resting. The names of these four are as follows-

1. Visheshwar Rai, Rohua.

2. Vindhavasini Babu.

3. Shivji Singh, Khajbatta.

4. Muni Ji alias Sevak Singh, Khajbatta.

Meanwhile, British soldiers got information about this in Camp Baikunthpur, due to which the British army laid siege to Bakhri Barai Camp and attacked the revolutionaries of Azad Dasta.

Visheshwar Rai, Vindhavasini Babu and Ramchandra Singh were caught and put in Hajipur jail.
