Visegrad Insight is a European think tank and media platform established in 2012 by the Res Publica Foundation. It provides policy analysis, strategic foresight, and actionable recommendations to address challenges in the Central and Eastern Europe region and beyond. The platform analyses democratic security and provides foresight with actionable policy recommendations that infuse and structure public debate on the CEE in the European Union and United States.
Mission and focus
[edit]The platform focuses on democratic security, transatlantic relations, and the future of Europe. It produces scenario-based reports, such as Costs of Non-Enlargement[1], How European Democracies are to Survive a New Trump Age[2] and EP Elections 2024: How Democracy Can Win and Europe Can Lose[3], offering insights into potential political and social developments.
Activities
[edit]- Publications: Visegrad Insight publishes articles in English and local CEE languages, addressing topics such as EU enlargement, defence funding and democratic resilience. These are disseminated in collaboration with regional media outlets, including Gazeta Wyborcza[4], Hospodárske Noviny[5], HVG[6], Onet.pl[7], PressOne[8] and SME[9], to bring regional language-based journalism to non-English-speaking audiences.
- Strategic Foresight Reports: Forward-looking analyses that map out scenarios for EU and regional developments.[10]
- Visegrad Insight Podcast: a platform to explore the nuances of democratic security by featuring key experts.[11]
- Fellowship Programmes: These include the Marcin Król Fellowship[12] and the Future of Ukraine Fellowship[13], supporting journalists, analysts, and opinion leaders who address regional and global democratic challenges.[14]
- Events: The platform organises debates, workshops, and the annual Europe Future Forum[15], which gathers policymakers and public policy experts to discuss Europe’s future. Visegrad Insight hosts expert roundtables and public debates across Berlin, Bratislava, Brussels, Budapest, Prague and Warsaw.[16]
Leadership and recognition
[edit]The platform’s leadership includes Wojciech Przybylski as Editor-in-Chief and Galan Dall as Managing Editor.[17]
Visegrad Insight’s work is supported by the European Commission, European Parliament or the National Endowment for Democracy and features prominently in international media. It is recognised for its critical stance on democratic backsliding in the region.[18]
