The US Quadball Cup 2024 was the 2024 edition of the US Quadball Cup, the national championship for college and club quadball teams organized by US Quadball (USQ), the sport’s governing body in the United States. The tournament took place in Round Rock, Texas, from April 13–14.[1]

The tournament featured four divisions of play: two collegiate divisions, one club division, and an open division. The Harvard Horntails won the college championship, Cal Quadball won the college D2 tournament, and Boom Train won the club championship – marking the first time a team from the Midwest Region had won a championship.[2] It was also the first year since 2016 that a team based in Texas failed to win a single division.[3]

Qualification

[edit]

The tournament had 16 spots available for each of the college divisions, 20 spots for the club division, and the open division was unbounded. Teams qualified for the competitive divisions via their performance at a USQ-sanctioned national qualifier event, and the remaining bids were awarded in order of the USQ rankings.[4]

Format

[edit]

Before the tournament, USQ held a draw to divide the qualified teams into four pools for each division. For the draw, teams were split into four pots according to their USQ rank. The pools were drawn randomly such that each pool contained one team from each pot.[5]

Each pool played a single round-robin schedule on the first day of the tournament, with the top three teams (in the case of the college D1 and Club divisions), and the top two teams (in the case of the college D2 division) advancing to a single-elimination bracket played on the second day. In the college D1 and club divisions, the winners of each pool received byes to the quarterfinal round.[5]

The following tiebreakers were used to determine ranking within pools:[6]

  1. Head-to-head (when applicable between all tied teams)
  2. Average score differential in games between tied teams
  3. Average score differential in all games
  4. Flag catch percentage
  5. Total quadball point differential
  6. Coin flip/random selection
