[edit]- Teekay Almighty (born Thokozani Shabangu, 11 November 1997) is a South African rapper, songwriter, executive producer, and musician known for his lyrical prowess and dynamic performances. Emerging from Pretoria, he began his musical journey under the moniker *Word The Unorthodox*, debuting with the track "3pm in Cape Town" in 2018. In 2022, he rebranded as Teekay Almighty to better connect with his audience. He is also the founder of his own label and production company, Thokzin Finest Productions (TFP).[1]
Early Life and Family
[edit]Thokozani Shabangu was born on 11 November 1997 in Soshanguve, Pretoria, South Africa, to Trevor Cetshwayo, a former soccer player turned entrepreneur, and Abigail Shabangu, a former advocate's administrator. Raised in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, Teekay spent much of his childhood moving between Johannesburg and the City of Cape Town due to his father’s business commitments.[2] These experiences exposed him to diverse cultures and musical influences, shaping his artistic identity.
He is the second-born in a family of five children, with an older sister, Tamara Houghton, and three younger brothers, Trevor Ntaka, Kevin Khanye, and Omphile Mpofu.
Career
[edit]Teekay Almighty developed an early interest in music, which led him to pursue a career in the South African hip-hop scene. His debut track, "3pm in Cape Town," released in 2018, marked the beginning of his musical career. In 2022, he adopted the stage name Teekay Almighty, signifying a fresh chapter in his artistic journey.[3] He is celebrated for rapping on hard trap beats and identifying himself as a true trapstar, without blending any traditional elements in his music. Beyond rapping, Teekay is a skilled songwriter and executive producer who oversees the creative and technical aspects of his projects under Thokzin Finest Productions (TFP).
