- Comment: Neither youtube, nor the subject's personal website, are reliable sources. Mentions of his blog are not important, nor what he is a "fan of" as there's little chance those topics are covered by reliable, secondary sources. The subject does seem to be notable, so let me know when this is fixed and I'll take another look. Utopes (talk / cont) 22:56, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

Syudou[Note 1], born September 27, 1995 , stylized in lowercase, is a Japanese singer-songwriter and vocaloid producer.
He quickly grew in popularity after the release of his 2019 song, Bitter Choco Decoration, which entered the video-sharing platform NicoNico's Vocaloid Hall of Legends and sits at 50 million views on NicoNico and YouTube combined.[2][3]
In 2020, he provided the music and lyrics for Ado's debut single, Usseewa, and in March 2021, he started releasing music with his own voice, with his debut single Hebereke Junkie. His songs, Gambling and Reversal were released as the opening themes to the anime adapation of Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy's first and second season, respectively, and In The Back Room was released as the fifth ending theme of Chainsaw Man. In 2024, his single, I Kill You was released as the opening theme of the Japanese TV Drama "Baby Assassins Everyday! ", and Work Out was released as the ending theme to the anime adaptation of Magilumiere Co. Ltd.[4]
He is represented by the artist management company A-Sketch under his own label, syudou store.[5]
Career
[edit]Syudou started playing music after the influence of his family. In 2012 he posted videos of drum covers on the Internet, and in late 2012, inspired by Hachi (Kenshi Yonezu), he became a Vocaloid producer.[6][7]
In 2018, he released Jyama (邪魔, "Hindrance"), his first hit song, reaching a combined number of 10 million views on NicoNico and YouTube.[8][9] A year later, he released Bitter Choco Decoration, his most popular work, sitting at 50 million views on both platforms. The song was so successful that he quit his job to work as a musician full-time.[6] Multiple of syudou's songs, including Jyama, Bitter Choco Decoration, Call Boy, Baka (馬鹿, "Fool") sit at NicoNico's Vocaloid Hall of Legends.[10] Later that year, he released his first Vocaloid album, Saiaku (最悪, "The Worst").[11]
On April 2020, he released his first EP, SonobashinogiEP (其の場凌ぎEP, "Makeshift EP"), featuring self-covers of his most popular songs.[Note 2][12] On October 23, 2020, the song Usseewa, sung by Ado, was released. syudou composed and wrote the lyrics. It quickly rose in popularity, peaking at number 1 on Billboard Japan Hot 100.[13][14] The next day, he released the song Jackpot Sad Girl, which was included in the mobile rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!. In an interview, syudou confirmed the song directly mentions Hachi's 2017 song, DUNE (砂の惑星, lit. 'Sand Planet').[15] In November, he released his second vocaloid album, Hisshi (必死, "Desperate").[16]
On March 2021, he released his first song using his own voice, named Hebereke Junkie (へべれけジャンキー, lit. 'dead drunk junkie').[17] In May, he released Bakushou (爆笑, "burst of laughter"). The song's lyrics depict a failed comedian, and was believed to be based on the comedy duo Magical Lovely. syudou then confirmed it months later.[18] In July, he released Gambling, which was used the opening theme to the first season of the anime adaptation of Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy.[19]
On February 25, 2022, a teaser video for syudou's first live performance "Noroshi" was released on YouTube.[20] Later, on April 29th of the same year, a song with the same name was released. On May 3rd, it was streamed as an online live on PIA LIVE STREAM. Shortly after the live broadcast ended, syudou announced that he would host his first live with an audience, "Acceleration," at Nakano Sunplaza on August 8. The reason he chose Nakano Sunplaza is because he was born in Yamanashi and raised in Tochigi, which are both places he calls home. As a student, he often visited the venue for live events, so he had a deep fondness for it.[21] It was announced that the Plaza would close on July 2, 2023, and he wanted to perform at the Plaza before its closure.[22]
On September 19, it was announced that the song In the Back Room would be released as an ending theme to the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man. The show would have 12 ending themes, one for each episode.[23] The song was released on November 9, and was the fifth ending song to be used in the series.[24] In 2023, the song Warauna! (笑うな!, "don't laugh!") was released as the ending theme to the anime adaptation of Play It Cool, Guys.[25] A month later, he collaborated with musician Mafumafu on the song Clockworks. It was released as a tie-up song for the mobile game Blue Reflection Sun.[26]
On March 30, he announced his first album, Rokotsu (露骨, "Blatant"). The album's cover art was designed by yasutatsu, who frequently illustrates his music videos.[27] The Blu-ray edition contained his online live Noroshi and a documentary of his 2023 concert, Gamushara.[28] On June 29, his song Atashi (アタシ, "me") was used as theme song to the event "Tokyo Discovery City! Let's go on an adventure" (トーキョーディスカバリーシティ!冒険の旅に出かけよう), held at Tokyo Dome City.[29] In August, he performed his first tour, for the album Rokotsu, at Zepp Namba (in Osaka), Diamond Hall and Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo.[30]
In September, he released the song yattyattawane (やっちゃったわね, "Now you've done it") as part of the album "Ryugujo", by unit DREAMERS, who featured him, alongside fellow vocaloid producers Ayase, Surii and Tsumiki.[31] In January, syudou was chosen for the ninth artist on Project Voltage, an official collaboration between Pokémon and Hatsune Miku. He released the song I'm a Ghost Type on January 27.[32][33] In April, he collaborated with singer RYOKI, from the boy band Be First (stylized as BE:FIRST). Their song, Kyoutou (共闘, "joint struggle") was chosen as the theme song for TBS Japan's baseball broadcasts.[34][35] The same month, he released the song Reversal, which was used as the opening theme to Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy's second season.[36]
In June, he held his 2024 live tour Dekiai (溺愛, "blind love"). The tour final was held at Tokyo Dome City Hall.[37] In September, his song I Kill You[Note 3] was released as the opening theme of the Japanese TV Drama "Baby Assassins Everyday! "[38] and in October, Work Out was released as the ending theme to the anime adaptation of Magilumiere Co. Ltd.[39] He held his one-man live Gekiai (激愛, "extreme love") in November at Pacifico Yokohama National Hall in Kanagawa Prefecture.[37] At the concert, he announced his 2025 concert, Higaku (美学, "aesthetics"), which will be held at the Nippon Budokan, syudou's dream venue since his first concert in 2022.[40]
Personal life
[edit]Syudou was born in Yamanashi Prefecture and raised in Tochigi Prefecture.[21][41] He started learning about musical instruments when he joined the brass band club in middle school. After that, he started posting drum covers on a video site. He and his friends formed a band when during high school, but they disbanded. By the time he entered university, he decided to aim to be a composer. He bought a computer and the digital audio workstation (DAW) Steinberg Cubase, which he uses to this day, sent demo tapes to record companies, and began working as a Vocaloid producer.[6][7] In an interview with Project VOLTAGE, he revealed he has one older sister.[33]
Since January 2021, he has been posting and updating the radio series "Syudou's Lonely Radio", which is a personal project.[42]

[edit]- ^ Based on the japanese word "手動" (shudō, lit. 'manual').
- ^ In Vocaloid culture, self-covers refer to the act of singing your own songs.
- ^ The song's title, written in hiragana, can be read as both "I Kill You" and 愛 生きる 理由 (Aiikiruryuu, lit. 'reason for love'), as depicted in the song's lyrics.
- ^ Play on words with the first kanji in “personal life”, meaning “private,” replaced with the kanji for “death.”
