The Solar System has made several appearances in fiction.

History

[edit]

A clement twilight zone on a synchronously rotating Mercury, a swamp-and-jungle Venus, and a canal-infested Mars, while all classic science-fiction devices, are all, in fact, based upon earlier misapprehensions by planetary scientists.

Carl Sagan, 1978[1]

Locations in the Solar System besides the Earth have appeared as settings in fiction since at least classical antiquity.[2][3]

Advances in planetary science in the early years of the Space Age rendered previous notions of the conditions of several locations in the Solar System obsolete.[4][5]

Planetary tours

[edit]

Journeys visiting multiple locations in the Solar System is a recurring motif.[6][7]
