Scourge is a fictional character in the Warriors novel series by Erin Hunter. He is primarily featured in the novel The Darkest Hour,[1] and the manga The Rise of Scourge.[2]
He is a black cat with one white paw. He wears a collar studded with the teeth of cats and dogs, and his claws are reinforced with dogs' teeth.
Scourge was born as Tiny to Quince and Jake. He has a brother and sister named Socks and Ruby, respectively. Tiny was the runt of his litter. He faced relentless bullying from his siblings, whom his mother favored, and eventually ran away from his home. He entered the forest near his home, and was attacked by a ThunderClan apprentice named Tigerpaw.[3] This attack left him badly injured, and he chose to instead make a new home in the human town, rather than the forest.
As Tiny learned how to survive in the town, he began to gain power. He lied about having killed a dog, and frightened away another dog, leading more and more cats to respect him. Eventually, he kills a cat in front of a large crowd, and becomes the leader of the group of cats living in the town. He renames himself Scourge, and names his group of cats BloodClan.
Tigerpaw, now the leader of ShadowClan named Tigerstar, enters the town looking for help. He does not recognize Scourge as the kitten he attacked, and asks Scourge for BloodClan's help in attacking other Clans of the forest. Scourge agrees, intending never to follow through with this offer. He instead attacks and kills Tigerstar, getting revenge for what Tigerstar did to him.[4][5]
Scourge plans to take over the forest, and he and BloodClan attack the rest of the Clans. They ultimately fail in doing so, and Scourge is killed by his half-brother, Firestar.[6]
