Draft:SMD Ferrite

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SMD ferrites, also known as chip-bead ferrites (CBF) or ferrite chip beads, are inductive components from the group of ferrites for the assembly of printed circuit boards using surface mounting technology (SMD). SMD ferrites are constructed using multilayer technology.

NiZn is used as the encapsulating ferrite Material, while the coil in the inner layer is made of pure silver using a printing process. The equivalent circuit diagram is a parallel circuit consisting of a resistor, coil and capacitor.

In the low-frequency range, the component acts as a low-impedance resistor, while in the high-frequency range the inductive component predominates. Due to their Design, ferrites have an undesirably low electrical capacitance. <ref>Trilogy of Magnetics: Design Guide for EMI filter design. ISBN 9783899291575. The main function of an SMD ferrite is to filter EMC interference, for example differential mode interference. <ref>"How to use ferrtie beads (Cadence.com)". 23 August 2022. Interference signals on the line in high frequency ranges are converted into heat in the ferrites. Due to their low-quality value (Q), SMD ferrites have a very good filter effect. The component values are specified as impedance in Ohms, measured at a frequency of 100 MHz in a 50 Ohm impedance system (source-sink). [[1]] SMD ferrites are manufactured in designs from 0201 to 3312 for maximum through-currents of up to 10 A (direct current). <ref>"Application Note" (PDF).
