Rima Alhamedd is a Syrian filmmaker, producer, and architect, recognized for her works in documentary filmmaking and animation. She studied fine art and photography in Sweden and has been involved in award-winning film projects screened internationally.

Rima graduated from the Architecture Faculty of the University of Aleppo in Syria in 2010. She studied fine art and photography in various art schools in Sweden. She also holds a master's degree in Sustainable Urban Planning and Design from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. Her degree project is about empowering immigrant women in Botkyrka municipality.[1]

Rima worked in various capacities on the documentary film trilogy On the Edge of Life - 2017 (على حافة الحياة) which received numerous awards and was screened at prestigious international film festivals.[2] The film won the prestigious Joris Ivens | CNAP Prize for the Best Film in the First International Competition at the Cinema du Réel film festival in Paris.[3] It also received the Best Mid-Length Documentary Award at the 58th edition of the Festival dei Popoli,[4] as well as Best Documentary and Best Mid-Length Documentary at the 15th edition of the Tirana Film Festival.[5][6] Additionally, the film was honored with the Prix du Jury at the 13th Festival du Film de Famille in November 2018.[7]

She edited the documentary I Have Seen Nothing, I Have Seen All - 2019 (لم أرَ شيئاً، رأيت كل شيء)[8] which won Best Short Documentary at the Sharjah Film Platform.[9]

Rima served as an artistic advisor, co-writer, cinematographer and producer for Chasing the Dazzling Light - 2023 (مطاردة الضوء المبهر)[10] which won the Best First Feature at IDFA 2023.[11]

As an architect with a master's degree from KTH, Rima integrates her architectural skills with her animation projects. Her short animation Long Take - 2023 (مشهد طويلMashhad Tawil)[12] premiered at the Uppsala Short Film Festival and was nominated for the Early Bird Uppsala Award [13]. She is currently working on a short docufantasy animation, Goodbye Lapis Lazuli .[14]
