PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a scheme launched by the Government of India in it's 2024-25 budget for rooftop solar plant project with an investment of over 75,000 crores to provide solar power to about 1 crore households and to provide them 300 units of free electricity every month.
History
[edit]Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi announced this scheme on February 13, 2024. Under PMSG Yojana, beneficiaries receive a fixed one time subsidy amount from government directly into their bank account.[1][2][3] Beneficiaries are also eligible for bank loans at concessional rates. A national online portal has been created for this and integrates. To promote the scheme at the grassroot level, urban local bodies and panchayats will be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems in their areas.[4][5][6]
Apart from this, the scheme aims to increase income, reduce electricity bills and create employment opportunities for people.[7]
Eligibility

- Indian citizenship: Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Property ownership: The applicant must have a house with a roof suitable for installing solar panels.
- Valid electricity connection: Applicant must have a valid electricity connection.
- No benefit from other subsidy: Applicant must not have availed any other solar panel subsidy earlier.

Registration process
[edit]The registration process under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is simple and streamlined.[11] This process is completed in the following stages:
- Go to the official website: First, go to the official website of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
- Fill Registration Details:
- Select your state.
- Select your electricity distribution company.
- Enter your electricity customer number.
- Provide mobile number and email address.
- Follow the instructions on the portal.
- Login: Login with customer number and mobile number.
- Apply for Rooftop Solar: Apply as per form.
- Fill Online Application Form: Complete the given form.
- Wait for Eligibility Approval: After getting Eligibility Approval from DISCOM, install the plant from vendors registered with your DISCOM.
- Submit Plant Details and Apply for Net Meter: After completion of installation, submit the plant details and apply for Net Meter.
- Net Meter Installation and Inspection by DISCOM: After inspection by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate through the portal.
- On receipt of commissioning report: After receipt of commissioning report, submit the bank account details and cancelled check from the portal. Subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.[12]
