Manuja Veerappa is a sports journalist from Bengaluru.[1] She works with the Times of India as Senior Assistant Editor (sports). She specialises in hockey. She received Karnataka government’s Media Academy award for 2024 which was presented in Bengaluru on 3 February 2025.[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Veerappa is from Bengaluru, Karnataka. She did her schooling at Bishop Cotton Girls’ School and later went to Christ College, Bengaluru. She represented Karnataka as a hockey goalkeeper in the National Hockey Championship.[3]
Career
[edit]In 2003, Veerappa joined Vijay Times as a sports reporter. The newspaper was later acquired by the Times of India group. In 2005, she joined Times of India sports department as a senior correspondent for her first stint for about three years. She then moved to Deccan Chronicle where she worked for seven years.[4] In 2015, she came back to Times of India as an Assistant Editor (sports). In a career spanning over two decades, she covered World Cup hockey, World Cup cricket, World Billiards and Snooker Championships and various other Olympic sports.[5]
She also served as the president of the Sports Writers Association of Bangalore.[6][7] She also mentors journalism students.[8]
