Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke (born 17th November 2009) is a young contemporary Nigerian autistic artist. Kanye as he is popularly called is known for his artistic skills and creativity having beaten disability. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of four, he started painting as early as he was five years old. His work has gained global popularity.[1][2][3]

Kanyeyachukwu advocates for children living with autism through his extraordinary artworks. On April 22, 2022, World Autism Day launched a campaign to showcase and create awareness of the strengths, challenges, and how to manage autistic children in society using himself as an example.[4][5]

Early life and education

Kanyeyachukwu was born in Calgary, Canada to Mr. and Dr. Tagbo Okeke, who hails from Amichi, Nnewi South, Anambra State. He started attending Cradle to Crayon in 2011 but his skills manifested well when he was in pre-K at the American International School Abuja and afterward attended Oakland International School around 2016 before he was moved to Aduvie Primary School in 2019. He graduated from Aduvie Primary School in July 2022 and is currently in his secondary school at Aduvie Secondary School.[6]

Awards and recognition

Kanyeyachukwu has received several awards from both his home country and abroad. He is the youngest recipient of the Flame of Peace award. The youngest African artist to exhibit at the New York Art Expo, Art Vancouver, and art Arkane Africa.[7][8]
