Justin Reza Cooke (10 March 1983 - 15 April 2017) was a British entrepreneur, known for his work in various fields, such as fashion, technology, and the automotive industry.
His most notable creation is the social media app Tunepics, which at its peak had 5 million users before shutting down in 2016, including many prolific celebrities such as Adele, Will.i.am, Kate Bosworth, Lorde, and Jamie Oliver.[1]
He would later become a pivotal part in the development of former electric vehicle manufacturer Arrival, founded by Denis Sverdlov.[2]
Early Life
[edit]Cooke was born in Kensington and Chelsea, London, to parents of Persian origin. He was second cousin to chess grandmaster Nicholas Pert and international master Richard Pert.[3]
Career
[edit]Cooke began his career in the fashion industry, working with renowned brands such as Tom Ford, Burberry, Gucci, and Stella McCartney, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the brands' marketing strategies. His career continued to grow with other luxury brands before transitioning to high-level marketing roles in major companies. Cooke then served as Chief Marketing Officer at Topshop between 2012 and 2014, instrumental in boosting the brand's international profile and digital presence. His efforts included collaborations using his prior connections to high-profile presences in British society, such as Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn. In 2014, Cooke left Topshop and founded Tunepics, a social media platform that allowed users to share photos accompanied by music tracks, which gained popularity and was supported by celebrities, yet despite initial success was discontinued in 2016.[4] After the closure of Tunepics, Cooke shifted focus toward the automotive industry, working on projects at the now dissolved Arrival, his final job before untimely death in 2019.
Death
[edit]After three days reported missing, on 18 April 2017, Cooke was discovered dead in Cornwall, and subsequently commemorated on social media by Jamie and Rebekah Vardy, who were close friends of the deceased.
