Jon Cartwright (born March 19th, 1995) is a British video game journalist, YouTuber and voice actor who is especially known for his contribution to the mostly Nintendo-focused channels GameXplain, Nintendo Life and Good Vibes Gaming. Since late 2022, Cartwright has also been working professionally as a freelance voice actor, having appeared in various commercials and video games.
Career
[edit]Cartwright gathered early experiences in video game journalism and content creation as a teenager, hosting his first YouTube channel, NomComms, which initially focused on retro video game reviews. While only reaching a small audience, Nintendo UK eventually noticed him, offering review copies of then-new games such as Super Mario 3D Land and Bravely Default.[1] André Segers, founder of the Nintendo news site GameXplain, eventually got in contact with him, offering to participate in discussions[2] on their YouTube channel along with other channel members. Cartwright officially joined GameXplain as a video editor in April 2017, while also continuing to appear in discussions and contributing to video script writing. In February 2020, he rebranded his initial Channel NomComms into the personal secondary channel Good Vibes Gaming.[3]
Along with a number of other channel members, Cartwright left GameXplain in September 2020. In November of the same year, he announced that he would be pausing his appearances on Good Vibes Gaming[4] as he had joined Hookshot Media's Nintendo news site Nintendo Life in September as a video editor, forming the sites core video team while also writing game reviews for their main website. In the course of this development, former GameXplain members Derrick Bitner, Ash Paulsen, and Steve Bowling joined Good Vibes Gaming along with graphic designer Daniel Alba.[4][5]
In February 2022, Cartwright left Nintendo Life and returned to Good Vibes Gaming.[6] Starting in November of the same year, Cartwright started professionally engaging in freelance voice acting, and was featured in the Philips OneBlade advertisement line, as well as multiple video game projects such as Cat Quest III and Run From Mummies.[7]
From 2015 to 2018, Cartwright studied public relations & communications at the Southampton Solent University.
Personal Life
[edit]Jon Cartwright is married to Roxanne Cartwright since April 2024.[8] They have two children together.
Trivia
[edit]On February 7th, 2022, Jon Cartwright secretly started posting presumed leaked information regarding an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation on the Twitter account Waddle Dee Knows (referencing the Waddle Dee enemies from the Kirby series) that turned out to be accurate when the presentation later aired on February 9th, 2022.[9][10] He later revealed that he had been operating the account and that it had been a Hoax in a dedicated video on Good Vibes Gaming.[11] He had uploaded a large number of private Tweets beforehand, only making the ones including accurate predictions publicly visible afterwards.
The account received various media attention following the presentation.[12][13][14]
