JioHotstar is an Indian subscription video-on-demand over-the-top streaming service owned by JioStar, after the merger Viacom18 and Disney Star.[1][2][3][4]
History
[edit]Launch
[edit]On 14 February 2025, JioHotstar was launched after merging Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema. Disney+ Hotstar is fully merged and if you open it, you will see both the contents of it and Jio Cinema, but since Jio Cinema is used less commonly, the contents available on Disney+ Hotstar are not available on it.[5][6]
Description
[edit]The merger is anticipated to leverage the strength of both platforms, combining sports contents where JioCinema hosted several major leagues such as 2024 Summer Olympics, Paralympic Games, Indian Super League, Men's T20 World Cup, BCCI matches, AFC Asian Cup, etc. and Disney+ Hotstar hosts Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Indian Premier League and also video library where JioCinema already has combined with Peacock and Hotstar hosts nearly all Disney contents.[7][8]
