Henry Staelens (born 28 January 1988) is a British professional sports executive, currently holding the role of Chief Executive Officer at Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) since March 2023. Previous roles include CEO of Forest Green Rovers, where he became the youngest CEO in English football between 2018 and 2023[1]
Career
[edit]Staelens left school at 16, before co-owning a media agency in his twenties, which he sold in 2018.[2] T
That same year, Staelens became Chief Executive Officer of Forest Green Rovers, where he worked for Chairman Dale Vince. During his time leading the "world's greenest football club",[3] the Club achieved promotion to EFL League One in 2022-2023 season and gained plaudits for their environmentally-focused business model and commercial growth, including playing kits produced from recycled plastic and coffee-grounds[4] and being the first team to travel to an away match on a fully-electric coach.[5]
Staelens personally picked up awards for Business Leader of the Year (2022) and CEO of the Year (2021). He was also notably banned from entering the Bradford City AFC Boardroom in 2019 for not adhering to dresscode mandate.[6]
In January 2023, Staelens announced his decision to step-down as CEO of Forest Green Rovers, stating "The time feels right for me to pass the baton on - there is still so much potential to uncover both on and off the pitch at this very special club."[7]
In March 2023, Staelens stepped into the role as CEO of Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) where he oversees the sport's governing body and national talent pathway, including Great Britain men's national ice hockey team.
