History of mathematics

[edit]

G.H. Moore's book, "Zermelo's Axiom of Choice",[2] on the history of the axiom of choice is the major work on this important topic in mathematics. The axiom of choice was introduced in 1905 by Ernst Zermelo, sparking controversy. This topic is still an area of active research in model theory. Moore's book describes in great detail how the Axiom influenced mathematics over 75 years.

The importance of this Moore's history is well-known in the field. According to a 2014 review, by John L. Bell, Gregory Moore’s book was at that time the only comprehensive account of the history and development of the Axiom of Choice.[3]
