Eco Goth is an aspect of the Goth Subculture, term that first appeared in 1999 on the movie Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost.
Origin:
Mentioned for the first time by The Hex Girls
who called themselves as such, in the 1999 movie Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost.
Eco Goth is a lifestyle like gothic itself, the dark aesthetic, passion for the obscure, mysterious, mystic, seductive, with a lot of appreciation for the figure of the vampire and the witches, but with an emphasis on the love for the Mother Nature, with further reinforces plus the concept of anti-consumerism already adopted by the subculture.
Ideology:
This aspect of subculture proposes to take care of nature, using it resources in a conscious and sustainable way. The anti-consumerism and anti-capitalism thinking thoughts are rooted in subgothic in general. In practice Eco Goth can be a fusion of these two wolrds: the dark and introspective aesthetic of the goth witch search for harmony with nature and critique of the negative impact that humanity has on the Earth. Immerse on the philosophy of searching for a simpler lifestyle that is in tune with the planet, without giving up the aesthetic and sentimental characteristics that gothic brings, such as melancholic and dark. Wear black, think green.
Music:
Incorporates ifluences from gothic rock, dark wave, post-punk, synthpop, New wave, folk and indie rock, but with a sensitivity lyric focused on the connection with nature, th mysticism of forests or witchcraft, social critcism in relation to consumerism and environmetal destruction.
Fashion:
Like any-respecting goth, black is the main colour when it comes to outfits, but other colours can be protagonists too. Translate into darkness and dramatic clothes, with details like natural elements or style more inspired in rural or medieval, vectorian goth, whimsy goth, vampirism and even pre-industrial elements. The idea of DIY making your own clothes, customizing, buying at the thrift stores is very important.
Religion:
The goth subculture is secular, however it is very common for Eco Goths to practice Wicca or other pagan religions of celtic origin or have mother nature as a daity.
Simbology:
- The four elements - Which represents nature.
- The moon - Associated with feminine energy, mystery, intuition, and the unconcious, occultism and mystical arts.
- The bat - Mysterious and darkly supernatural in many cultures, linked to vampirism and the idea of transformation and rebirth.
- Ankh crux - Represents life, immortality, protection and balance between masculine and feminine energies.
- Pentagram - Associated to witchcraft, mysticism and occultism, in addition to representing the four elements.
- Circle - Symbol of infinity, protection and union.
